Cake

I have been working with Jessica from Nothing bakes like a Parrot.  I think some of the girls on this Board ordered cake from her.  Wonder if you have good experience.  Thanks.

Have you done the tasting?  I live in NYC so she said that she can send some samples for me to try.

I did the tasting, but my cakes were gluten-free. If the quality of her GF cakes are any indication, she's amazing. Her stuff tastes really, really good.

Yes, and it was very good.  We are getting three different layers: Strawberry margarita with fresh strawberry filling, confetti cake with chocolate pudding filling, and strawberry with chocolate ganache, all with buttercream icing.  I found the buttercream icing to be one of the best I've ever had.

One of my FSILs has been to a few events where Jessica has done the cake and she raved about it.

Great that makes me feel more comfortable.  I will ask her to send me some samples to try.

Minimin who got married this summer used them and there is a review in her married bio.  I think you could find a link to it in the for sale section at the top of the board.

I don't know if anyone is still watching this board or not, but just as an FYI, Jessica from Nothing Bakes Like a Parrott was a total disappointment.  She was great with the emails back and forth, but totally forgot about (or blew me off for) the cake tasting and didn't even email to say "oh sh-t!"  Instead I contacted her again about 5 days later saying, "what happened?"  She came up with an excuse about how busy she's been and I let it go.  We tried again and she was nice enough to deliver the tasting, but it was awful!!  The cake (in the form of cupcakes) tasted like it had been in the freezer for 2 years!!  I was hugely disappointed.  To top it all off, she never even followed up to see if we liked the tasting!!  Fair warning that she's a bit unpredictable.  I've heard great things about her but my experience was not a good one.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with her.  My experience with her was fantastic.  My FI doesn't get home until after 6:30 every night, so she offered to meet with us that late if we wanted to do the tasting during the week, but we opted for a Sunday morning instead.  I actually liked her set up of using cupcakes so we could mix and match the flavors and fillings instead of just having the combinations we were thinking about.  She even had a few more traditional flavors for us to try if we didn't end up liking what we had originally chosen.

    Hello,
I am so sorry that you had a bad expierence with my cakes.  I take negative comments constructivly to help my buisness improve.

With all my cake tastings, they are personalized and made specifically for each bride and groom.  When I had not heard from you the day before I  was suppose to drop off the tasting box, I did not want to have my cakes go to waste.  I am sorry you felt as though I had blown you off or forgot about you - that was not my intention.  During my off-season, I am only one woman baking, designing, creating, organizing, booking, emailing, and doing all the other aspects of my buisness and I make sure that all my responses are personalized and concise, so it may take me a few days to respond (which is clearly stated on my website)

When preparing for cake tastings, I always bake the cake the morning of drop off or appointment.  Nothing is ever frozen, so it is unfourtunate that this is how you felt the cakes tasted.

In regards to my follow up, I had responded to your email the day after you sent it and I would be more than happy to foward you what I had sent!

    Thank you, Jessica Parrott-Robitaille

Jessica, I certainly do not mean to criticize your business as you have a wonderful reputation and obviously worked hard to get it.  I just felt the need to share my experiences on these boards as everyone else does.  Unfortunately my experience was not up to par.  What's a shame is that you didn't even know how I felt until you read this comment because you never contacted me after the tasting to find out how we liked it.
I think you have a great business opportunity and as a business owner, you just need to spend a little more time on the customer service aspects and follow-through.  Once you get that down, nothing will stop you.  Good luck!!
