Honeymoon?

Where are you going on your honeymoon?! Are you leaving right after the wedding?

We just got back in March from the British Virgin Islands (where he proposed!!) Which was AMAZING and comes with my highest recommendation! If you want some where tropical and remote.

Is anyone registering for honeymoon gifts?

We are going to Spain, Italy and Egypt.  But we will not be taking our honeymoon until early next year bc we will be moving to Nicaragua six weeks after the wedding for my faince's job with the State Department. We don't want to do anything tropical bc we will be living in the Tropics for the next two years!  Alos we met in Hawaii, wherewe both lived from 4-5 years, so we have already had that and wanted something different from what we are used to:)  We have a Honeyfund for our main registry.

We're going to Aruba, leaving Monday morning (wedding is Saturday). We had friends who went there on their honeymoon and loved it! We haven't been anywhere tropical together, so I'm very excited. I've heard the British Virgin Islands are awesome!

We didn't register for honeymoon gifts, but my sister/MOH bought me stuff for it for the shower -- flip flops, beach bag, lingerie, etc. FI's grandmother also bought us a beach bag.

What kind of honeymoon gifts are you thinking about?

We just took our honeymoon on Cozumel.  It was amazing, and well worth the 6 month wait.  I wouldn't have enjoyed it even half as much if we had gone right after the wedding.  It was nice to spread out the cost and the celebration.
We took a few days after the wedding to go to Newport, Rhode Island, which was also very nice.

We obviously aren't there in the planning yet but we have talked about it.  We are talking about going somewhere tropical about 6 months after the wedding. A) to split the cost a little and B) because September is hurricane season most tropical places.  But if anyone needs a good deal on locations check out http://www.cheapcaribbean.com/ I've known people that have used the sites and it really is the best deal out there!

We are in the same boat. Wedding in September = hurricane season in the Carribbean. And it's definitely going to be nice to take a little breather from spending money. We are taking a few days after the wedding to be home so we can decompress a bit. But our official honeymoon won't be until Jan or Feb 2011.

We are also not in that stage of planning yet but have talked about it.  We are looking into going to an all-inclusive resort in the Carribean.  We will probably do the trip in the spring time following the wedding. Mostly because 1. money, 2. going to a tropical location in July would miserable and a waste since the weather is warm here at that time of year, and 3. it would be too rushed as we are squeezing the wedding in between my board exams and me starting clinical rotations.

To all the ladies planning winter/spring Caribbean trips: just keep in mind that it's high season, which means everything will be more expensive, and things will be more crowded as well. I'd recommend going on tripadvisor and reading reviews of people who stayed during the month you're thinking about, because people's experiences can be quite different during high vs. low season.

Of course, I would NOT risk going during hurricane season, but you may get better deals on the shoulder seasons, like December or May-June.

We picked Aruba right after the wedding because it was way cheaper in June, less crowded and still seasonable. Aruba is not in the hurricane belt, so it's a good place to visit year round. It's also considered the safest Caribbean island. Worth looking into! I'll definitely post a review once we get back.

We are off to Paris the Friday following the wedding.  We wanted a few days to open presents and write thank yous, not to mention just enjoy the after wedding glow!  We are lucky because my mom has a time share that she traded for Paris, and my FI parents are getting our plane tickets as our wedding gift, so we only have to save for what we actually want to do while there.  Can't wait!

I would love to go to Spain or Italy, but so expensive for the travel!!
My FI's coworker won an all-inclusive trip to South Africa (well he still had to pay $600) but he said he might not want it and would give it to us for $600. It would be such a unique trip! The only problem is that we are getting married at the end of May and it's winter in Africa at that time. So the only way I'd go is if we waiting until August/September

Is anyone going to Spain or Italy and willing to share cost info.?
