Marriage License

Could someone help me...I'm not sure how to apply for a marriage license.  The wedding is Oct 16,2010 and I'm a mississippi resident but my FI is an Alabama resident.  Any info is welcome...thanks!

Hi MB, don't fret.  There is tons of information on the internet that tells how to easily get a marriage license in MS.  It doesn't matter that your fiance is not from MS he just needs a form of identification.

1. Mississippi has a seventy-two (72) hour waiting period. So apply for your license a few days ahead of time.

2. Average cost of $22.

3.Blood test within 30 days showing that both applicants are free from syphilis. The results can be from any laboratory (in Mississippi or out of state) that is authorized to do pre-marital syphilis testing and is registered with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services such as a Health Department.

There are a few stipulations if you have been divorced or under 21, but besides that you should be able to go to any court house TOGETHER (after receiving your blood test results) and apply.  Since you said your wedding is next month, I would go get your blood test at the end of this month.  You may also need to know your social security number, your parents full names (maiden), and both states of birth.

Call the circuit clerk in the county where your wedding will be. I'm getting married in Rankin County, and the girl I talked to there was super nice and really helpful. She answered all of my questions. You can apply for your license at any time (as long as it's more than 3 days in advance), it doesn't expire. We're not getting married until Feb, but as soon as we both have a chance to go over there, I want to get it taken care of and out of the way!

I didn't know you can apply for it anytime. That's good information.
