July 2013 Weddings

Anyone else planning a 4th of July wedding?

My sister is a Marine and I'm planning a fourth if July wedding for her! Is anyone else trying to make sure it isn't too kitschy?

Re: Anyone else planning a 4th of July wedding?

  • Our wedding is on the 5th of July, but I'm planning on doing some things that will nod to the 4th. I wanted to do a red, white, and blue color scheme without looking like a crazy person, so we ended up going with navy, raspberry, and white. It looks grown up, and polished while still having the same kind of idea. We're also doing sparklers for a big "getaway" and we're setting off those wishing lantern things. The big things we're staying away from: anything plastic or too metallic, and stark red/white/blue.
  • Ditto to Walkers - we are using light blue and cherry red (along with, you know, the white dress and everything!) as a bit of a nod to the big holiday. Our hopeful date is the 20th, though. Since your sister is a Marine, you could look into doing red, blue, and gold, or some variation of those colors. I know there was someone on the Military Brides board who married a Marine and her wedding had similar colors, and it was quite beautiful :)

  • My biggest tip is to stay away from the stark Flag colors, like the PPs said. We're still doing red and blue, but we're throwing in green accents to avoid being too gung-ho Americana. Alterintavely, you could bite the bullet and go full out Americana. There are some really cute ways to get the 4th of July feel without being overwhelmingly cheesy and kitchy! look for it on pinterest.

  • I'm doing July 3Rd at a war memorial no less. I'm leaning more nautical than true red, white, and blue. I'm adding small touches like navy and white ribbon around our bouquets.
  • I'm also doing really patriotic vintage looking flag STDs vistaprint postcards I believe. My invitations will be different, but I figured with so many out of town guests I should have fun with these.
  • I love the idea of doing a vintage look, especially for a morning or early afternoon wedding with the gents in light colored suits :)
