Re: Show me your dress!

  • Here's mine, except my sash is ivory rather than the darker color.  It's Jim Hjelm 8663.  I won't get it until around October though and I'm getting antsy!

  • Eas, that dress is gorgeous!

  • Mags, I love it.

Obviously mine is going to be a work in progress for a while, but I'll collect a few inspirational photos and get back :)

havent gone dress shopping but i like these... but without the train dont wanna drag behind me in vegas.. love lace but the last 1 looks light which is good too

  • Base Pattern:

Satin, in my sewing room, RIGHT NOW!

I'm having a bit of a problem at the moment, however.  I'm debating a few things.  One, is a train.  Trains are pretty, but they also a) require more fabric, which means more work and b) drag on the ground.  Our ceremony is outsite and we can't use an aisle runner.  If I have a train I know I'll want to decorate it, but then its going to get grassy/muddy, so it might just be smarter to not have one :) lol.  I wasn't planning on saving the dress anyways, but I'd hate to go through all of that work to have it be ruined in a few hours.  The second thing is embroidery vs. beads.  Embroidery is a bit more "classic", but sugarbeads would a) be easier and b) add some bling.    The beads would stand out more, because it will be white/clear beads on white fabric, as opposed to white embroidery floss on white fabric.

I love the decoration in the pick-ups on this dress.  A to-do, especially if I end up choosing beads over embroidery.

I love the simple structure of this bodice.  It also has *just enough* decoration to make it interesting, but not overly gaudy.  Oh, and a 1/2 corset back.

But on the other hand, we have this one.  I don't like the color of the embroidery, but in general I like the area that it encompasses.  I was thinking more of a cherry blossom type of design, and again it would be in white floss, not red.

Actually, now that I put them all together, the last one is my least favorite.

So....maybe something like the bodice + skirt length of the second dress, the pick-up decorations from the first dress, and fancy design around the hem like the third dress?  I don't know!  I don't want it to be *too much* but I also don't want it to be *too plain*.

I really just need to go try on dresses in stores so I can see what I do and don't like for total embellishments.

  • I only have pics of mine on me, because it's from a little botique that doesn't have a catalog. :(  I ordered it in Ivory, and here it's White, so it will look a little different.

  • Gab you look sooo pretty. The detail on the bodice is beautiful!

  • I have gotten rid of all pictures of me in my dress - I don't want FH to accidentally see one. Here are pictures of the model in the dress (ignore her insane hairstyle):

I love the length of the train. I think I am going to have an under-bustle done. (I think thats the name of it. It makes like an upside down U on the back)
    bodice detail
The back. I am considering having the top half of the zipper taken out and having it made into a corset. Both for looks, and my huge boobs . But I am not sure how that would look with the waist being so high. . . thoughts?

I got my dress in January from lightinthebox.com - my mom and I were just browsing the internet for pictures to take with us when we went dress shopping. She IM'ed this picture to me and my heart stopped. It was exactly what I had doodled, dreamed, and envisioned since I was a little girl. After about a week of debating, measuring, reading reviews, and weighing my options. I decided to gamble the $200 and ordered the dress. It was PERFECT when it came. I could wear it down the isle tomorrow with zero alterations. I was worried about the quality, but it feels better than any of the dresses at DB (it weighs 4 pounds!), is structured and boned so well I won't need a bra, and the details are flawless. I can't wait to wear it in less than a year!
  • Before you change the zipper, can you go fake dress shopping and try on a similar gown with a corset to see if its any better? Itd be a shame to do and not have your breasticles stay in place lol Btw, I love it. Especially the train!

I'm a fan.  It's really classy.  Especially with an ivory sash.  This should be one you keep in case your FDD wants to wear it some day.

I agree with Mags, maybe go try one on in a store to see if you like that style more before you alter it.

Doesn't it feel super crazy awesome to say that?

  • My mom will be making my dress for me. :)

Here is one of my inspirations:

Here is the pattern I picked up:

We are going to be working with pattern B (the pink one). No bow or little flower thingies. I want the top gathered. I think pattern B and C are the same. Anyway, I want some sort of design on the bottom (like in my inspiration pic). Not sure what yet, I have to go look at fabric some more. And of course a bit of bling, possibly at the top. And it will be white.

I don't want a train because I think it will only frustrate me. Although, every now and then I have changed my mind about this then changed it back after some thinking. I don't think I will end up with one.

  • Thanks Vowels and Flutter! The bodice was my main reason for picking it :) I LOVE the pick ups on both of your gowns, I am 110% obsessed with pick ups, they make everything so fluffy!  BMG I love the flowers on your dress, it's so intricate!
