July 2013 Weddings

I need to stop watching wedding shows!

I was just watching a marathon(?) of My Fair Wedding and it's not really inspiring me as much as making me second guess EVERYTHING.  Ugh.  I wish someone would come and drop tens of thousands of dollars on me and my wedding! (not really)  It also really makes me want to get into the wedding deco business, haha.  I can team up with my BFF who wants to become a wedding planner - we'll be FABULOUS together, haha.

Although I must admit that some of the other shows like SYTTD & BZs are sort of fun to watch and go "wow, I'm glad I don't treat my loved ones like that."  It's like a train wreck...can't....look....away....

  • I know exactly what you mean. I know that  I have 10months and plenty of time to make decisions, But I can't want My fair Weddiing because it will depress me too much since that isn't me and he will not be  popping up days before to give me this AMAZING WEDDING..

SN: I love Bridezilla and SYTTD because the people are dramatic and kinda funny..

  • Oh I know what you mean. I've stopped watching My Fair Wedding, there is no point in seeing what COULD be. I'm really glad I no longer get (or they no longer air) Platinum Weddings because I remember watching it in college with my GFs and thinking "Yeah, that'll never be me!"

Like nursing2u I like Bridezillas and SYTTD for the drama. Hehe.

Part of me wonders how many of those girls are actually that BSC and how many of them are just in it for the 15MoF.  Or both - we could go with both.

Classic example - both episodes I sat through had FABULOUS wall-to-wall-to-ceiling draping with uplighting which is an idea I had for a "blank slate" sort of space, but decided A) I wouldn't get enough people to travel where I wanted to hold it to warrant that size of venue and B) draping is expensive, even if I DIY.

  • Agreed!! I can't help thinking though ..The David Tutera shows..those I heard are done like a month to the wedding. If it were me Id have like EVERYTHING planned and almost paid for. Most of these girls have either a giant mess or nothing. I couldnt hold out banking on the idea that David MIGHT do my wedding...plus who pays for their canceled venue fee?! As much as I love the show for ideas, I had to stop watching because of the ideas...that I'll never get to have due to financial concerns... sigh

I *might* be doing something like this at my wedding... on one wall. The DJ I am thinking of going with has a pretty nice package for a DJ for 6 hours and full room uplighting, with one wall fully drapped, and a custom dance floor monogram for $1500. Since DJs run about $100-$150/hour around here I'm thinking this might be an affordable option. My venue is a giant ballroom, so it really needs the uplighting to "pop". I actually would have never thought about uplighting if David hadn't done it! />.<

I was told that anything that was purchased before hand is just money that the couple "loses" in exchange for the awesome wedding. Not sure if that is accurate or not. Honestly, I wouldn't mind losing all my down payments and stuff, because in exchange you're getting more wedding than your "loses" add up to. The big problem I would have is, like you, not having a lot of stuff done only a MONTH before the wedding. Plus, you don't get to do bridal pictures with David because you don't get your dress until the day of the wedding. :(
