July 2013 Weddings

Timeline..

Hey ladies, I really need help with my start time....our wedding is 7/5, and we are doing all pictures before, except maybe a handful with distant relatives that won't be there till the ceremony. We have our venue till 11, then we have to move into a hotel bar. There it will turn into a cash bar, I know bad social faux pas, shame on me!! So I'm thinking a good chunk of people will leave at or before 11, except for the party croup and our families. So with that, knowing most people will likely leave around 11, I am thinking of a ceremony time either 5:00, 5:30, 6:00??? It is a Friday, so I'm slightly concerned about rush hour, although I think majority of people take or are give the 5th off. We are having a short and sweet ceremony, 15-20 minutes.

Re: Timeline..

  • We're 7/5 too! :)

    Ours looks like this:

    Ceremony - 4:00 (should go til 4:30/:45)
    Cocktails - 6:00
    Dinner - 7:00
    Reception Ends - 12:00am
  • I'm on 7/5 too.  I don't want an evening wedding as much.  I can't remmber off the top of my head what we've decided, but I think ceremony start time is either 3 or 3:30.  Reception starts at 5, probably serving dinner around 5:30 or so.  I think we get the place until midnight.

Not as many people as you may think have the 5th off.  I think since the 4th is on a Thurs, people will be more inclined to, because then it'd be a long weekend.  I am concerned about the locals making it with work and everything, but the important people will be there no matter what.

  • Im also 7/5. But im havinga morning wedding... Im in Chicago and our rush hour is from 3:00-5:30pm. What is your rush hour? So based on my rush hour, I would start 3:30 or 6:30 as it sounds like the cermony and reception is in the same venue (but not same room, right?). This way, people just missed rush hour or should only have to deal with the very end of it...makes sense? As far as people having the day off, I agree with PP: those important people will be there no matter what or be there in spirit.

  • We're getting married on 7/5 too!  And doing a first look and all our photos before...So, I'm putting the dress on around 330 and starting photos with my family at 4pm.  First look at 430sih followed by family photos.  Our ceremony starts at 630 and we have the venue until 1130.

    7:00 Cocktail hour
8-12 Reception (I'm leaving dinner time to venue, not for me to worry about)
