Anyone booked?

Has anyone booked their venue yet? I figured that after the New Year, I'd have to book a venue for my wedding. 18 months out seems about right, yes?

By the way, I know nothing about planning a wedding. =p

The only thing I have booked (well when we send back the contract) is our photographer. I knew EXACTLY who I wanted, and didn't want to miss out. I've yet to book a venue, but I'm 90% sure where I want it. I just need to tour it. I agree I'm going to wait until next year before booking.

TIP: my photographer said when you book an outdoor venue, look at where you will have your wedding/reception, during the time of day (and even time of year) you plan to have it. This affects the photographer (and ultimately your photos) a TON. Also, you and your guests. If you are outside on a sunny day, you don't want the sun right in guests' eyes do you? Also, a half shady spot will create really funny shade spots on you, which is hard for the photographer. Just something to think about

Not booked yet either. SOO much information to think about. FI just bought a house that needs some projects done so we'll probably do those first and look at venues after the new year.

I thought I was super ahead of the curve when I started looking at places after we got engaged in September and that was the case at most venues. Some of them looked at me like I was crazy when I said summer of 2013 and I was there in October of 2011 lol but Then we found the one we loved only to find out every Saturday in summer 2013 already had holds! I think there are going to be a LOT of engagements over the holidays and you should def look as soon as possible after new years, especially if you are considering a popular venue in your area. We were lucky that a date opened up (July 13, 2013!!) so don't get discouraged. I've also started looking into DJs and Photographers and a hotel this week while I've been on my break (I'm a teacher lol) and they have actually said it was not a proplem that I was so early and it was actually a good thing as you are sure it get exactly what you want, when you want it and not have to work around other people. Also the one person made a good point, we will have plenty of time to save the right amount of money and not have as many last minute surprise expenses. 

I wouldn't feel rushed but it def doesn't hurt to be early on some of this stuff so you are you sure to get what you want and you'll have way more time to make decisions. If your anything like me, you'll need it!! There are somethings I am going to be sure to wait on like the dress and choosing the type of flowers but I have a lot of time for DIY projects and I won't have to feel rushed!

Yup my Fiance and I booked our venue this past August. July-August was almost completely booked up for 2012 in our area, being that teachers get married between those months. My advice is to start looking asap. Don't wait, people have already began.

The ceremony venue we want doesn't allow bookings more than a year out, so I have to wait until July for that.  We could probably book the reception site & chair rentals now, but it seems silly to put deposits when there's no guarantee of us getting our ceremony site on our preferred date until it's booked.

Yup! We booked ours in November. The place we love books up super early so we had to really. There were already OCt 2013 weddings booked when we called!

I think ti depends on the city and the place you are getting married but even if you can't book before a year out you can always look! You don't want to loose the place of your dreams
