Videography?

UGH! I am sooooo split on getting a videographer. At first FI and I decided we won't ever watch it and it's a wasted expense - I mean, our parents videos were horrid! I'm so grateful that my parents are paying for a vast majority of our wedding - minus alcohol and RD, graciously covered  by FILs. I made a budget for my dad and excluded videography and instead splurged on a $3500 photographer.

Although we are spending a fairly good amount on our wedding - there is just no room for videography (what ever, if any, is left over will be put towards HM fund), which was completely fine with me. Until I went to FI's cousins wedding and they had a great videographer. After seeing the highlight video, I witnessed so many moments that I missed. I've heard that the day flies by for the bride and groom - so I imagine the video revealed even more to them!

So... now I want one! Really, really badly! I am already saving for a honeymoon, and I think with picking up some hours I could swing the videography.

I guess my question is, with the given link - can you justify the extra $2500?

Are you having a video? Why or why not?

I'm just so torn, I was sure  I wouldn't miss it from our wedding. Perhaps I wouldn't have splurged so much on photos if I knew I was considering videography...

I'm skipping the videographer, I just don't think I would ever watch it.  Photos seem more tangible, you can hang them up and see them every day.  It takes more effort to watch a video.  I think I'll have a friend tape the ceremony, but that's about it.  Plus I'm nervous it would capture things I thought went wrong, or remind me of issues.  I want a foggy memory I can treasure for a lifetime

We're not having one either. My dad may tape the ceremony, which is fine by me. I'm too worried I'll see all the things that went wrong and pick them apart, then want to do it all again haha.

I wanted one, but we do not have the budget for it after paying $3k for photography. FH and I have a flip cam that I'll probably give to one of my teenage cousins, who is super interested in technology, so she can capture the ceremony and big events at the reception.

Like you, we had decided against a videographer, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to have at least the ceremony recorded.  I ended up finding a coworker that has professional video equipment and he is going to record the ceremony for $300.  I don't need the reception taped since it's mostly just people milling about and dancing, but I thought it would be nice for our son that is 2 yrs old now to have a DVD he could watch of his parents getting married.  I also didn't need a highly edited "highlights" video, so the basic one will do.

I was going to skip it, but I want to hear our vows and see the toasts again. So I found a cheap videog for $450 (last time I asked FI he said No) or I will have someone record it with a home camera. I just want to see it later, I don't care for fancy extra stuff they are doing now.

It's not in out budget nor is it a big priority for us so I plan on setting up some video cameras and doing some simple editing ourselves.
