July 2013 Weddings

Will this look dumb?

We're getting married at a historic mansion, and the central theme of the decor is gold. gold moldings, gold accents, gold fixtures, etc.  I swear the must go through swimming pools of gold paint.  Since I switched my wedding to summer (I originally wanted winter) to make it easier on my guests/attendants I've had to change my decor/theme ideas (I wanted a kind of 'cosy castle' vibe). After stressing about it way too much, I think I finally have an idea I like.  I want to use a lot of gold tulle and gold colors, with dark red and pearl accents.  I think the tulle makes it light enough to be 'summer' but I talked to my mom and she's worried it's too 'winter'.
The 'gold' thing also lets me incorporate the subtle medieval accents that were a part of my original idea, so I really like it for that reason.

What do you think, will this look 'summer' enough, or will it look like I couldn't figure out color theory?

Re: Will this look dumb?

  • I don't think you need to worry about whether it looks "summer" enough.  If you like it, go with it!  Just because your wedding is in July doesn't mean you have to pick pastels or whatever.  I think it sounds really neat and I like your ideas of medieval accents.  As long as you don't have heavy velvet or furs or something, I don't think it will be too "winter".  Good luck!

  • I agree with PP. My venue has a lot of gold/ivory in it (chairs, wall accents, etc)  and our wedding colors are orange, gray and white. We're going with a more modern theme while our venue is an old mansion thats been renovated.  The venue has creamish- goldish chiavari chairs but I'm hoping that with all my decor and colors on the tables no one will even notice or remember.
Pick something the both of you are happy with!! :)

  • Nope!  I think the dark red & gold will go well for a medieval undertone as well.

Snowflakes and poinsettas scream winter to me.  What you're planning sounds perfectly fine :)

  • I side with the rest of the ladies. Don't worry about the whole season/color thing. As long as you stick with your theme, I think things will turn out beautifully.

  • I agree with PP. I am also getting married in July and thought all white flowers would make everything look more winter than summer. But I think the other colors, such as black for me and gold for you, will balance everything out. Plus, white and gold are my fav colors! Red will give it that summer pop as well.
