July 2013 Weddings

Just thought of the funniest thing..

My Fi is in his last semester of his masters program right now, so I havent asked him to do much wedding stuff (like going to get prices of things, nothing major, hes been there to register everywhere and pick invites).. But I just had the funniest thought about when hes done with his thesis (hopefully early in april) he wont know what happened to him! Hes going to get hit with sooo much wedding stuff! i've made it a goal not to be the bride that calls our wedding (My wedding) because its not for me, its for us (so he has to help!) haha

So just wondering, how involved are your grooms?? Whats duties are assigned to him? What arent you asking him to do?

Re: Just thought of the funniest thing..

  • I ask FI's opinion on most things and he has been there for all of our appointments for anything. He is mainly handling communications with the DJ and Caterer. Although I did have to step in with the caterer; FI was asking me how to word an email to the Caterer regarding changes so I told him I would handle it myself. For the life of me I don't understand how he couldn't manage that one little thing lol, but w/e I guess he's just not used to working with suppliers/vendors like I am from work. I've always been the 'planner' in the relationship anyways, and I'm okay with that as long as I have him supporting me, and I always do :-)

  • He's extremely involved. Hes helped pick the venue, colors, meal choices and just about everything else!

  • oh okay sweet! so our guys are involved! Thats good to know im not the only one! I feel like in the past brides did all the wedding stuff on her own or with their mom or other family member. Soo happy times are changing!
  • FI is probably the most involved one at this point. He's a huge foodie, so I left catering stuff completely up to him while retaining veto rights. He also works from home, so he's been the main contact for most things (venue, caterer, rentals). Decorating is my thing, so he's staying out of that unless I have two equal options and need his honest opinion.

Thus far everything has been working out perfectly!
  • My FI is super involved and I couldn't be more greatful. He has been to every appointment, and given me thoughts on every choice we have made, including BM dresses!!! We were getting ready for our flower appointment last week and he brought a few pictures of the first flowers he sent me and suggested that those be our wedding flowers. I didn't even remember what kind of flowers he sent, I had to look through our photo albums to rememberer, haha.
  • My FI is very hands off, but I have made every decision with him in my head. Most days I am frustrated as all get out that he isn't helping, but he's busy and works a lot of hours so I'm trying to be understanding. It's good you're giving him the space to finish his thesis, but I think the men are happier with the end result knowing they were considered in it. I'm definitely in the old fashioned category where it's my mom and the maids at all my meetings, but believe me when I say it's out of necessity and not by choice. Mine hasn't even seen the venue yet but he "trusts me." That's guy speak for make a decision and leave me alone, right? If your man is willing to help I say let him dive in with the planning! And congrats on both his thesis and your big day! Sounds like 2013 is a big year for both of you :)
  • FI and I are sort of long distance. Not only is he not involved but if I bring something up he usually has no clue what I am even talking about!

I want him to be more involved but when we do get to spend time together I don't want to be doing stuff like that anyways. Haha.

  • Aww I remember being loong distance too! But when you are together doing like a cake tasting or flower picking can be a fun easy way to get him involved. Or even trying some.diy?
