The Salt Ceremony

Salt is known as a preservative and purifier that prevents decay and corruption. It is eternal, enduring, never changing, and abiding forever; it is the very symbol of God’s character and reliability. And the term “Covenant of Salt,” is indicative of the everlasting nature of the Covenant relationship between the children of God and their Creator.

The Covenant of Salt is a binding contract. During ancient times, agreements and promises were sealed by a salt covenant. Each person would take a pinch of salt  from their pouch and place it in the pouch of the other. It was said that when each grain of salt could be sorted, identified, and returned to the rightful owner, the contract could be broken. Today, Ashley & Robert will each take a vial of salt, and pour their salt into a container, joining the grains together for eternity as a symbol of their commitment to each other today.

Thank you

We would like to extend a special thank you to our parents for helping us become the people we are today and supporting us on our journey here today. We love you all very much. We offer a heartfelt thanks to our family and friends who traveled far and wide to share in this celebration.

Many years from now when we look back on our life, love, and this day, we will remember that  music and food were not what made this day so special. It will be our memories of sharing the
beginning of our life as husband and wife with you –our friends and family. Having you here with us today has made our wedding truly wonderful.

Understanding that life holds many momentous commitments, we thank you for sharing in one of our happiest.

In Memory of

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have is memories
And your picture in a frame
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts

Re: Programs

  • That sounds reallly nice!!!  I had never heard of the Covenant of Salt before but I really like it and am glad you explained in in your program!  Nice job!
  • Thanks! I hate when I go to weddings and they do some ceremony I've never heard of and there is no explination.

Are the Thank You's too corny? Or the In Memory?
  • I too like the explanation  you gave. Your whole program looks great! The only part I thought was a little repetitive was: "We are honored that you are here today and present with us during the ceremony." I think "here today" and "present with us" are the same thing so you should just stick with one.

I see your point, and I appreciate where you are coming from; however, I took the wording off of offbeat bride. I thought the same thing at first. Then, after some thought, I felt like it reiterated how important it is to be not only "here" but also "present" by not using cameras or phones. So I kept it.
