September 2012 Weddings

Linens...? (long, but I need help!)

So today I realized that we need linens on the tables. lol! And I need MAJOR help! We need linens for:

3 72" rounds
5 60" rounds
2 half rounds
2 8' banquets
2 6' banquets

We're not doing chair covers. Our "colors" are mostly neutral and white/ivory with pops of color in the accents in cool colors (blues and green with some pale pinks in the bouquets probably). I have a few options.

I could do a light brown/beige tablecloth with a white lace runner. This is my favorite idea, but probably the most expensive.

I could do white or ivory tablecloths with burlap runners tied at the end like this (except everything on the rounds):
The only thing is I have no idea how to get burlap table runners like that.

I could do the light brown/beige tablecloths and no runner and put a doilie at each place setting like this:
The only thing is that it's a buffet so the plates, silverware, and napkins would be by the food and the doilies would be paper. Plus is that this would be the cheapest so that would be awesome.

The centerpieces will be kind of like this:
except not. lol The glass won't be over the top, it will be holding the stuff. And the "stuff" will be fresh, real fescue grass with small white flowers (think fabric baby's breath) in the center. Around the outisde will be candles (some wrapped in paper doilies and some not) and the table numbers will be small picture frames that I paint with chalkboard paint and write on.

Sooo... help? Also we will be buying these and reselling since the price of renting is incredible.

ETA: As if there's not enough info. =P We'll only be doing the "special" thing (runners or doilies) to the tables people will eat at. The cake table, DJ tables, and catering tables will be whatever we use for the tablecloths. (That would be one half round and all of the banquet tables.)

  • For the basic stuff, check out efavormart.com.  Couldn't afford to do all new linens so just got royal blue table runners from them.  I shopped around A LOT and they were the cheapest.  Considering how little I paid they were really good quality too.  If you like their stuff, PM me before you order because ever since my order I get emails from them with discounts often.  I really like the burlap and think it would work better than the place settings since you are doing the buffet.  Not sure the best place to buy a lot of burlap material.  I'd check ebay, if you have a local farm supply/feed store, maybe joanns (didn't have any online though).

This came up on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Burlap-Sandbag-Fabric-Material-Sold-By-The-Yard-WW2-/320745037649?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aade4df51

  • I love all those ideas! I coworker is doing a lot of burlap for her tables and aparently it can be expensive too. I have seen it at Michael's but I'm sure you can get it somewhere for cheaper. Michael's also has all that grassy/mossy stuff on sale right now - just an FYI.
I really like the light brown table cloth with the doilies - it's different and so pretty. I can see that being a cost effective option as well.

  • That efavormart link was interesting. Our venue provides white linens free and I was going to stick with those because I figured buying linens would be cheap. However, the runners I saw on there that I like to go over the white linens are only $4. Hmn...

  • Not sure which table runners you saw but after a 15% coupon I had, for the satin ones I ended up paying $2.26 each (including shipping).  It is one of my favorite buys because I know it'll add a lot of color to our all white linens too for hardly anything.  I'll keep an eye out for emails with discounts and post a PSA when I get one!  The printed ones or textured ones are more expensive but still a great deal!  I also figure I could resell them (assuming no stains) for almost or all of what I paid since I see people selling table runners for $5-$10 each all the time!

<div>Hmm... Do you think the doilies would look cheap since they would be paper? I'm really, really starting to want to do those because I don't care too much about the linens and every runner I've come across seems like a PIA. lol</div>
  • Oh, also what sizes would I need for the round 72" and 60"? I'd want them to hand within a few inches of the floor, but not go all the way down...

Check this out... how pretty are these ideas???
The doily placemat used as a place card with the clear plate is stunning. Not cheap looking at all ;)

Here's the link to other ideas too: http://capclassique.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/doily-diy-roundup/

Or this one... with the light brown underneath. It looks very pretty :)

<div>Oh! That looks great! I love the names on them too =) </div><div>
</div><div>Someone on the Reception board suggested putting the serving ware and napkins out on the tables to help fill it out... but how would that be possible? They're al plastic! =/ Suggestions?</div>
  • You can def put plastic serveware out on the table.  It will look just fine!  It would help fill it out too.  And when I go to a buffet I prefer that my drink cup, silverware etc be at the table because it get cumbersome to balance everything (though I think you mentioned before there are servers to help the guests so not as bad but still the more in your hands the more likely it'll end up on your clothes)
