I must be naive, because until this thread, I never thought of crazy people blowing up the city (I try not to watch the news). I'm hoping it's just media hype and I'm also hoping that those of you working/living in the city have an easy time of this.

Um, this is insane.  And I don't think it's legal, either.  I've got some good lawyers for you too if needed who could help for free :)  I don't envy you all being in Pittsburgh while this is happening!

Holy Crapoli!  That sucks Sara, I really hope they change that in the next few weeks!  Do they expect you to pack food for those days or is it being catered?

WHOA!!!  I'm on the "how can that even be legal" couch.  Especially since bossman is working from home.  Not right. I work downtown right near the courthouse.  They are shutting down our office for the entire week and having us work from an office in the south hills.  From what they told us...I'd take vacation days if I had to.  I'm not coming into town.

The summit didn't scare me until now!  I'm so glad I don't work in town (hopefully DH can work from home those days), but I'll have to find a different route if the County Airport is going to be bad.I would be so afraid to be in a building while people were protesting outside (especially the aviary!).  I would totally take pepper spray incase I had to run for my life!  N, you need to start training the birds to attack angry mobs!

Sara, this is so crazy.  I feel so bad for you.  It would suck to have to be at work during that time, but I don't like the fact that you will be there virtually alone.  :(Because of your phone line, you are unable to work for another location, right?  A phone line couldn't be secured in another location for you?  What about even working in the NY offices for those days?Could your FI stay at work with you those days, if he can get off of work?  Are there showers anywhere in the building - like if there is a gym or a big law firm, since a lot of them have showers and beds.  Even if you are salaried, you have to be compensated for this time.  I would divide your paycheck by 80 to get your hourly rate - and then multiple it by 1.5 for time and a half...and that is what you should get for over 40 hours that week - including the time you are SLEEPING.  That's just not fair.

Marburs, we're neighbors!  :)  Did you see the hippies by the County Office Building the other day?  About 3 weeks ago there was a car parked in the street facing the wrong way and an odd package.  Cops came.  They found these people with dreadlocks and weird accents in hippie-style clothing.  They were yanking on the window bars of the County Office Building.  Theory is that they are protestors who were just trying to cause a stir to see what they could get away with.  I don't know, but I don't like it.

Sara - that is crazy. I think we work for the same kind of, if not the same, company, and I can tell you, this is the first I have heard of anyone asking their staff to do this kind of thing.  If we can shift work elsewhere or let people work from home, we are.  If they HAVE to be there, we sure aren't asking them to sleep under their desk!  One thing to do is check with HR - your boss may just be running wild listening to rumors without any guidance.  Also - any boss who would ask staff to do that and then work from home themselves - not good.  Not good at all.   Please be safe if you are in town then.  Good luck.
