September 2012 Weddings

Too late?

Our wedding is 9/1, and originally we didn't budget for a videographer.  Our circumstances have recently changed and we have now decided that we can afford one.  At this point in the game, what do you think the chances are of finding a decent videographer that's available?  We booked photogs over a year in advance, so I'm worried now that it's too late.

  • It doesn't hurt to try - send a few emails out... you never know!

  • We just now booked our photographer.  Doesn't hurt to ask around!

  • There are still people available especially with that being a holiday weekend. Send out some emails.

  • I would try. I still had a videographer calling me every week. Even though when they originally approached me I said it wasn't in the budget, and I keep telling them it wasn't in the budget. They didn't leave me alone until I explained that it would be cheaper for me to buy a high quality camera and set it up myself. He argued and my FI told him that we have a Mac too. We haven't heard back. :P
  • I just changed DJs this weekend... so it doesn't hurt to try to find a vendor :)
  • Thanks ladies! I used to get constant emails from The Pros (they offer DJ, Video and Photo). I sent the rep an email just now. Have any of you heard about them or used them?

  • I have heard terrible reviews of The Pros.  Often the quality that you see on the website is not what you actually get.  You may not know who you are working with until the actual day of the wedding.

I've heard of them and apparently it is just a big contract service and they just assign you one of their people.  You don't get to pick and I've heard some people didn't get to talk to them until the week before and met them the day of.  They are reasonable but I'm someone who needs to be comfortable and have a relationship with my vendors.  I'd read some reviews but I'd also look for some companies with a more personal touch.
  • take a look on Craiglist, or even any universities or colleges in your area that might have a film program. You might be able to get someone pretty inexpensive !!

Great idea!! I live 2 minutes from the University I attended, and they do have a nice video/mass comm program.

Volley, I have heard the same thing about the Pros. My gut is telling me to avoid.

  • I would definitely skip on The Pros - just call up videographers you like!  Check your local board for advice.  You'll definitely find someone, and they're more likely to negotiate now as they aren't nearly as likely to fill the date.  So it's some money or no money, basically.  Good luck!
