XP on Attire: High Heel Shoes

I am getting to a point where I have to make a decision on shoes for my dress fittings.  I had a pair of platforms that end up being 2 inch heels with a 1 inch platform, so total of an inch in incline.  They are silver and wedge-like, so would be good for the outdoor ceremony.  I also bought a pair of flat shoes in hot pink for the reception if I choose.  But, I had kind of been looking for something a little more special, so I bought these:

They have a 4 inch heel with a 1/2 inch platform, for a total "incline" of 3.5 inches.  I'm torn on these.  I like the glittery.  I like that my "something blue" can be in the shoes.  But my concern is I'm not a super-high heel girl.  My ankles tend to get sore, even though some people probably don't even find these high.

Any thoughts on this from those of you who wear higher heels?  Any tips to make the higher heels them more comfortable?  Or, if I'm not used to heels, would it be better if I stick with the more flat shoes?  Thanks!

  • I'm not a "heel person."  Going barefoot for the beach ceremony & wearing flats for the reception.  I wouldn't wear high heels on the most important day of my life to this point just for the look of it, but that's just me.  I'm a creature of comfort :p

The only suggestion I want to give you is to try to make sure your shoes are around the same height.  Your dress will be altered for your tallest shoes, and you don't want too much extra fabric pooling at your feet when you're wearing the shorter shoes.
  • If you're not used to heels, your wedding is probably not the best place to try them.  Having shoes you're uncomfortable in will make you miserable.

There are some super cute shoes out there that are low wedges or flats that would probably make you more comfortable.

If you love the shoes, what about wearing them for the ceremony and then wearing flats for the reception?  You can have your dress hemmed just a teensy bit short for the shoes, which would be good for the ceremony to keep you from stepping on it, and then it'll be just a teensy bit long for the reception, which you can balance with the bustle.

  • Hmm..well, if you posted the correct picture, it looks like your second choice was also a pair of wedges, correct?

I am SO not a heels girl but I can honestly say that I can walk in pretty high wedges and be comfortable for a pretty long amount of time. So, even if they are tall, I have a feeling you would be ok in them. However, the ones that I usually wear have cork bottoms (which makes them a lot more squishy) and I can't tell if yours are cork bottoms or a harder material. That may make a difference.

I have fushcia heels that are about 4 1/2 inch heel for the ceremony and then blue fin flip flops for the recpetion. the seamstress said she will probably do a 2 to 2/12 in hem if I stuck just in heels she would not need to do a hem technically she said she would do prbably about 1/2 hem with just the heels and 3 if I just did flip flops. I am use to wearing heels and fell in love with the ones I got.

i would try them on and walk around a little bit each day and if they are still comfortable after a week you should be fine.

here is a pic of both my shoes-the heels look red but they are fuschia pink in real life
  • I'm not a heel person either. The highest heel I can wear comfortably is 1". My wedding shoes are 1" wedges. You're going to be on your feet ALL DAY, so if you're not comfortable in high heels, I wouldn't get a pair for the wedding. There are tons of cute shoes with lower heels.

  • I am definitely not a heel person. I bought 1.5" heels (which is high for me lol) and I bought flip flops for my reception.  If you are in love with the high heels I suggest start walking around in them now!  I work around my house everyday in mine so I can get use to them :)
