September 2012 Weddings

Which Dress??

Hi ladies:)

I am getting married on September 2nd... I have been to two stores to shop for gowns and I am torn between these two. I have a tendency to over-think/over-analyze everything and so of course this decision is way worse for me. lol
I love both of these dresses, but at the same time, I think to myself: are these dresses "bridal" enough? Do they have the "wow" to them that they are "suppose" to have. I am having an outdoor wedding, so I know it's practical to consider the venue when selecting a dress. But my fiance and everyone else say don't do that. Pick the dress you love. And then I think to myself, am I just picking a dress based on venue or do I really love? Yikes, see what I mean. Overthinkin'.

I just thought I'd post here and see which one you girls think looks best. My venue is outdoor like I said, I will be married on a beautiful lawn area and the reception will be in a very nice barn. Not as rustic as it sounds, but close.

Or should I shop around more to ease my mind and make a better decision? Or would that just make the decision that much more difficult to make?

Thanks for reading... I didn't mean for this to be so long!! lol

Re: Which Dress??

  • Personally I keep looking at that first photo and thinking 'wow that's so gorgeous' lol
But its about you, not anyone else. Its not about fitting the venue, or having the 'wow' for your guests to see... its about what dress when you put it on is right for you. What one makes you feel like a bride? What one do you think makes you look your best, and most comfortable at the same time (I know, interesting mix)?
  • We are date twins!!  I'm getting married on the 2nd outdoors too.  :)  My dress is really simple too.  I've of a mind that the more simple, the more elegant a gown is.  It doesn't have to scream "bridal" for it to be a lovely gown.  Needless to say, I LOVE the gowns in the pictures, especially the second one.  If you have found the dress you like and are comfortable in, no need to continue shopping IMO.

  • One.  You look gorgeous!  Two I agree with your FI that you should wear what you love.  You get married once and I think all the rules about your dress fitting your venue is silly.  A dress should fit your style and body type.  You're the bride not the venue!  I think those dresses are "bridal."  I personally like the first one best.  If you are in love with one or both of them but the whole venue style vs. dress style is holding you up....follow your heart not your head on this one and get the dress you love!  But, if you feel like you are settling by picking any of these dresses, I say keep shopping.

  • I think the dresses are both QUITE bridal, but I'm going to actually say I like the second one better. Something about the belt really works for me in helping to define your waist really nicely :)

  • I love #1, but it is up to you and what you love. Remember you have to look back at your pictures and love it. Nothing else should matters......

  • looks like you and i will have VERY similar dresses, and i had the same problem picking! i am having a traditional church wedding and a reception at a nice restaurant, so i don't have the venue issue but i agree with PP. this is your one shot to wear a bombshell dress so do it!

i love both by the way, but mine will look very similar to #1 with a belt like #2. have you thought of altering one to look similar to the other so you can have the best of both worlds? that's what i'm doing because Lord knows i'd never find the PERFECT dress off the rack.

PM me and i can send you a pic of my dress conundrum! and we're almost date twins too, i'm on the 1st!

  • Dress #1 for sure

  • I love the bottom of #1 and the top of #2.  If I had to choose, I'd probably say #1, though.  However, you can't go wrong with either of those.  You look stunning in both, and they both definitely look bridal enough.

  • I love the first dress.  I tried that dress on and it was in my top 2 until I found "the one" and completely forgot about the others.  This dress looks amazing in person- it like sparkles.  That element will definitely be captured in an outdoor ceremony and will certainly provide the "wow" factor you're looking for.  It's stunning and looks really great on your figure.
  • I really like #2, so that's my vote. As PP said it really helps to define your waist and makes your bod look gorgeous!

As far as continuing to shop, I had this same dilemma. I narrowed it down to a few that I liked, but still wasn't getting that feeling. I shopped and shopped and shopped! (In the end, I was glad that I did because I found a completely different dress on the last trip and was so sure that I ordered it right then.) I must say, it can get overwhelming, but if you aren't completely happy then continue to look because you will either A) surprise yourself and find something else that blows you away or B) feel more confident that it must be one of these dresses.

If you do decide to do some more shopping, I would advise to narrow your choices down to 1 or 2 favorites from any other places that you go (because you don't want to end up with 10 of your "top choices," yikes). I would also suggest checking out other shops that also carry the designer(s) of the dresses that you already like, because that will make for easy comparisons.

    Good luck!
