September 2012 Weddings

What to wear...

So, my Aunt's just told me when my shower is, and I'm really excited. I just have no idea what to wear! I assume I shoule wear a pretty dress, but the color has me stumped. I've read the bride to be is supposed to wear white or cream. Is that true always?

I don't know if I will be able to find a white or cream dress that isn't too formal or expensive that I like...

I want to wear pink, but I walso want to stand out. Should I even worry about that? Is it kind of like a birthday party where you stand out b/c it is your party?

Re: What to wear...

  • I've never heard that the bride should wear white at showers.  Wear something that makes you feel good.  Everyone will know you're the bride so I suggest to wear whatever you want!

  • it's totally up to you what you want to wear. i've decided to try to wear white to mine just because i think it will help me get into the mood of being a bride :) but ive been to showers where the bride just wore a cute dress, and also to showers where she just wore jeans. totally up to you!
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • Wear whatever you like!  I had my heart set on a one shoulder white dress, which I found cheap at J Crew Factory online (and it has pockets!  Yay!) and then I bought a Japanese Obi belt in teal fabric with gold detailing to wrap around my waist, and then glittery gold pumps from Nine West.  I cannot WAIT to wear it!

Pick an outfit that you feel beautiful in.  I think it's a good excuse to buy a pretty new dress, if you want to, but you certainly could wear something you already own!

  • I agree, be comfortable!  And don't get a dress that is too short (since you'll probably be sitting in front of everyone to open gifts).  I wore a cream colored dress from H&M - they have a ton of cute dresses and sales right now, check them out!
  • I agree with everyone else- wear what you like/what's comfortable. I'm wearing a cute/casual dress from old navy and a cardigan.

  • I think I am going to wear a navy bule sleeveless lace dress that I got on sale from Dillards I am excited to wear it.  It is elagant but not too over the top.

Ditto calindi! If you want to wear pink, wear pink! :)

I keep going back and fourth on what to wear to mine. I bought a bunch of dresses on sale (thank you J Crew Outlet and Boden), but can't seem to make up my mind!

  • Wear whatever you want -- I've never heard that you have to wear white.  I wore a blue patterned dress, 'cause we're having a blue wedding.  Now, I've just got to find something to wear to the rehearsal dinner... argh.
