September 2012 Weddings

Someone stop me. Please.

I keep looking online for new cowboy boots to wear for the wedding. I already have a pair that my brother's FI gave me. She only wore them once and they are my size and everything. I was ok with saving the money and wearing them but...... its soooo tempting to buy new, special, pretty ones. They are plain brown, which is what bothers me I guess. I want the boots to be noticed in pictures and such, so I kinda want a pair with a bit more detail to them but I keep trying to tell myself not to drop about $175 on new ones.

Anyone else having this issue??? Is there anything you really need to stop yourself from buying?

Re: Someone stop me. Please.

  • I'm going to be counterproductive here and say that if you'll wear them again, that isn't that pricey for cowboy boots and I bought two pairs of shoes for the wedding (though total they were $75).  Maybe hold off since we have time to see if they go on sale?  Then you could feel a bit better about it.  Also, of course, I'm assuming budget allows for these.
  • I am no help.  I am about to buy another damn wedding gown.  I say, if you have the money, buy the boots.
  • I am fighting spending money right now on a clutch. I was going to get one, then finances changed and it was one thing I figured I could not buy (there's a red rose one I loved). I am going to try to make one that I will love anyway and let it all go lol
  • What if you jazzed them up a bit? Maybe some leather paint, rhinestones, or glitter? Maybe a combination?
  • I'm having this issue with jewelry. I was originally going to wear my mom's pearls, then decided I wanted something more "blingy" since my dress doesn't have a lot of sparkle to it. I keep looking at Swarvoski crystal and CZ pieces, which of course are all around $80. I've seen rhinestone ones in stores at the mall for $20, but when I look at them up close they seem chintzy to me. I'm being a complete snob about it, but I don't think I'm willing to settle.

I'm having a smilar issue, I want a pair of Jimmy Choos that are $550. However, I could wear them again, lol.

  • Well, you are going to be wearing a white dress(i'm assuming), so the brown of the boots is going to be noticed.

I've seen lots of bridal shots with the bride wearing plain brown boots.  It looks really nice. :)

  • Yeah I'm not going to give you practical advice either.  :)  I'd say get the ones you love (assuming it is either in the budget or you can otherwise afford it) or jazz up the ones you already have like AshnRobo suggested.  You've mentioned these boots a couple of times and it seems like you aren't really happy with them. I would hate to have that nagging regret feeling on the day of.

Oh yeah... I'm really not going to help.  If you have mentioned the lack of enthusiasm more than once for the boots you have... I say, buy the new boots.
  • I say go for the boots too if they are important to you. And it seems like they are. I am having a problem with buying more cloth diapers. We dont need any more but i keep buying new ones. Plus i am buying newborn size one when im not even KU yet.

  • Girls you are supposed to be stopping me! lol!!! I don't know why I keep looking into more boots. I go online to see if there are any deals for my BMs boots, but I end up considering getting new ones for myself. I don't have a problem with the ones I have but something inside me says I *should* have fancier boots. I would most definitely wear them again, so they are practical for me. They had a pair at one point that had my wedding colors on them, but I waited too long and now they are gone. My mom tells me not to, and says I should consider the ones I have as my "something borrowed" but I don't even know if I am doing the "old, new or blue."

Plus, one site has free shipping right now. AHHHHHH!

I want to see pictures of these boots!  If you can afford them (and only if you can), I don't see anything wrong with buying new ones.

But since we are supposed to be stopping you.  Do you really NEED them?  Won't you get to keep your current boots after the wedding?

  • I personally think...  unless you are on an extreme budget and can't afford the boots...you should buy them.  This is your wedding... and your wedding outfit will most likely the most photographed outfit you will ever wear.  There are places to cut the budget... (trust me, I've cut in TONS of places), but your attire should be exactly what you want.

So...  my suggestion... is all of the September knotties should all send you 5 bucks each so you can just buy the boots !    I've got my 5 dollar bill ready!
  • GUESS WHAT.

I found that pair I wanted originally!!! THEY ARE ON SALE FOR $70!! My bday is in a couple weeks, and my mom had asked what I wanted, so  told her I want those. The problem is they LOOK green and brown in the pic, but are listed as gray and green. I am going to email the company and ask what the heck color they are because gray and brown are kinda two diff colors.
