September 2012 Weddings

Checks and my crazy mom

So we ordered RSVP postcards from Vistaprint yesterday (actual invites and our map will be printed elsewhere). THAT was exciting =)

Also got my whole linen order in today! Whoop whoop! I got chocolate brown polyester with ivory organza overlays which I thought would be too dark, but ehy turned out to be pretty nice! Also saved close to $100 ordering with sales and coupons so that was awesome.

My mom called me today and wants to make my bridal shower "drop by" which is SUPER weird to me. I had never heard of that. Apparently you put (example) 2-4pm and people just stop by anytime around there to grab food and drop off gifts. Weird! She was saying she didn't think people would come if it was a set time. What...? I told her just put (example)2pm on the invite and if people need to leave earlier that's fine. Also, if they're late that's fine, but I don't want it distinguished as "drop by".

Am I the only one that thinks this is super duper weird?

Re: Checks and my crazy mom

  • Hmmmmm I don't know much about showers but that does seem a little odd to me. From showers that I have been to it's at a given time and yes for those who are either late getting there or have to leave early that's fine they just do it.

Side note, where did you purchase your linens from? People keep talking about coupons and such for them, I don't know if it's just me but I never know where to find these coupons
  • As a lot of guests like to watch the bride open her gifts at the shower the drop by is a little weird to me.  @Trins, I got my linens from efavormart...they usually have 10% off and most of the time you don't need a coupon code.  They also do free shipping if you spend over $100.  Some people had bad experience w/ the company but I did not.

  • hmm I agree with PP... I'm not an expert on showers but all the ones I have been invited to are set times...  good luck
  • Hmmmm.....the term that would be a bit more fitting for what you're describing is "open house", at least around here.  And they usually last for more then 2 hours so it doesn't seem like you just want them there for a short time to get the present.  I've been to a few of those....although I'm not sure it was ever for a shower.  Except maybe a baby shower once?  Anyway, I really don't see why people would have trouble with specific times.  I mean, you wouldn't show up for a 7pm dinner party at 8pm would you?  (Well, without obviously telling someone you would be late, etc.)  And don't people play a few little games and everything at showers?
