September 2012 Weddings

I might be crazy (ventish)

I feel like a crazy person. Throughout the wedding planning process I have waffled on wedding colors. I finally made a decision a few months ago and then just yesterday I started to change my mind again!

First I wanted purple and green kind of rustic and natural with lavender and herbs.

Then I wanted to do blue and yellow art nouveau, vintage-ish. This appealed to me partially because I want to wear the sapphire and diamond pin that my great-grandfather gave to my great-grandmother for their engagement.

Then I went back to purple and green but with some of the vintage-ish elements. It seemed easier somehow, since there are so many purple flowers and greens to choose from! I was going to do antique brown bottles with individual flowers as table decorations.  However, I have since realized that while the bottles are cheap the shipping is astronomical.

Yesterday I saw these pretty blue and white table runners and now I want to go back to that idea! Oiy!

I haven't purchased much yet so it wouldn't be a loss to change now. However, I wanted to order my invitations in the next week so I need to make a decision and stick to it! I am seriously considering flipping a coin.

  • I hear you! I had the same issue. I waffled back and forth between colors too. I still sometimes wish I had chosen different colors. But I try not to focus on ideas that aren't in my color scheme, which has helped. What helped me was finding a piece of artwork that inspired me. Once I found that as my inspiration, I went from there. It's totally helped me with my entire vision. My inspiration is actually my profile picture here, if you're curious. Good luck! Decisions, decisions! I know I'm no good at them! lol

Could you buy bottles from a secondhand store and paint them brown? Or another color to go with the yellow and blue?

There are plenty of great ideas out their for either color combo, I say go with your gut and if it makes it easier to plan with purples and greens, do that.  I don't think colors are as big of a deal as the style, which will dictate how you use your colors. You can always take ideas from the yellow/blue things you've seen and adapt them to fit the purple/green color scheme. Just check out Pinterest! :)

ETA: I chose purple and gray but i absolutely gush over rustic pink and brown weddings. But I absolutely love dark purple and know it was the right color choice for me and it fits the style and venue of our wedding perfectly. Ultimately, I decided to use a lot more gray and white with accents of purple because what I really liked about the light pink/brown weddings was the neutral feel, and I brought that to my wedding using shades of gray. Like I said... any color combo can work! Just let the style of your wedding work it out for you :)
  • This was a hard coin to flip cause I had so many different color ideas in my head. Well FI decided he was going to make the final choice. And I actually loved it. We are using his fraternity colors, royal blue and gold wtih yellow and white accents. After finding it hard to find the right gold shade, I changed it to yellow and it worked!. Everything started falling into place quickly after the colors were settled.

  • I'm with romamor - once I found my inspiration, I just knew. I originally thought I was going with green, purple and white... then just purple and white... and then when I found THE dress, I knew it was white and feathers ;) I do still love purple so I threw in a few accents of eggplant, but overall it's white and feathers - and I haven't regretted it. Once I knew, the inspirations and ideas just started flowing - all in the right direction ;)

I hope you find your inspiration soon so that you can stop torturing yourself! lol
It is a big decision and there are so many pretty combos and ideas. Take a step back and look at why you want specific colours and what kind of "feel" you want to you wedding.

  • Luckily(?) I know exactly what I want to order once i do make a decision. I have two separate Pinterst boards for each color scheme.

<div>haha! that's funny. It's weird how we stumbled into our "theme". It's not really a theme or colors. We're doing neutrals for decor and sticking with a rustic vibe and then adding pops of vontage color in cool colors. Example: We have two pieces of furniture we're using in decor and painting them a muted kind of turquise color. There will also be bright green grass on the tables.</div><div>
</div><div>I hope you get it figured out! =)</div>
  • I agree with the other ladies, once you have the colours everything starts to fall into place! I would step back and look at what it is about each colour scheme that you like and go from there!
  • I understand completely! I spent all of yesterday stressed & considering changing my color scheme! I'm still not sure what to do about it...I think I want the change (but I'm not positive yet) & my FI says he's happy with either set of colors, but I'm afraid my mom and sister (MOH) will rebel, lol! Luckily there's no emergency on deciding since the only thing it will change is the flowers and table linens, neither of which need to know specifics any time soon, but I'm kind of irritated that I'm worrying about this again when I thought I had it all sorted out!

  • You can find budget friendly wedding ideas in any color so pick colors you like.

Our color convo legitimately went like this:
    Me: what colors you like
FI: nothing too girly since it's both of our days (nix pink and purple)
Me:  I want something bold not pastels, and yellows and oranges doesn't compliment my color
FI: I've seen too many red and black weddings.  So that leaves a bold green or blue
Me:  Blue's your favorite color, let's do that.  (specifically royal blue)

Hahaha and then we eventually paired it with black.  We now have a wine theme that sort of fell into place on its own.  If you find inspiration like PP said you'll be able to find something to make it work.

We do have the invitations picked which is a strong basis for the whole wedding. The artist is doing coordinating escort cards (with the swirl), table numbers, and thank you cards.

That is the stock photo, we wouldn't use those colors.
