September 2012 Weddings

the evolution of the planning process

I was going through my "favourites" on TK and noticed just how much my tastes changed over the course of the planning process. When I first joined TK, long before I was even engaged (and chose a fake wedding date of Sept 16 2012 - ironically we are getting married on Sept 15 2012!), I was all about the orange, brown, green. I still love those colours, but my tastes really evolved into a more classic and elegant feel. Even the style of gowns I first liked aren't even close to what I ended up choosing.

Did any of you notice that evolution too? Or have you always wanted what you have finally chosen?

  • That's so funny I was originally interested in the same color scheme you originally liked. My style changed as well I realized I like a more simple elegant wedding. It's funny how we change. The dress style is def not what I originally thought I wanted but I love it!! The only think that hasn't changed is FI and the venue.

  • When I first started out in 2008, we wanted May 25th, since 525 is lucky for me. I wanted bright pinks and oranges, the teal and brown combo, then light pink and gold. We have finally settled on pink, navy and bling. Dresses definitely changed. At first I wanted flowing and ethereal, then ballgown to hide flaws but quickly realized they made me look fat and now I have purchased a modified Aline fit n'flare.

</div><div>I totally had a ballgown in mind but ended up with a flute style that is very figure flattering... it's so important to keep an open mind so that you can find what really works for you!</div>

  • The first venue we were considering was very modern so I was looking at tangerine and turquoise as a color scheme. They weren't colors I ever incorporated into day to day life but I thought they'd be neat.

Once we settled on a historic home for a venue I ended up with two color schemes/feels for the wedding. I decided on a purple and greens theme with lots of wood and nature accents.

In the back of my mind I kept being drawn to a yellow and blue pseudo-art nouveau vintage theme. When we picked out invitations with a penny farthing bicycle and a swirtled designed in the corners the second theme finally won out.

I have had to create a whole new Pinterest board with the new theme and research flowers etc all over again!

  • When I first started planning (four years before I met my fiance) I had everything in detail on when and where I wanted my wedding. I wanted a spring wedding, at my family's church, and my colors were pink and ivory. Once the fiance and I started getting serious, my venue, date and color changed, but for the most part, everything is still the same.  My choice of first dance has even changed.  I had horrible taste in music when I was 16. Haha!

  • I have had a few changes but the funny thing is that on several things I went through periods where I changed but have now ended up right back where I started!!! Like my dress, for example. I had this dress in mind that I fell in love with a few years ago. I kept a picture of it and thought that it would be perfect for me since it's my second wedding (the dress is pink). Then, I went dress shopping and still was in love with the same dress though others were seriously tempting me. I wish I had been more active on the boards at the time because I might have chosen an ivory gown instead...since it's not as much of a faux pas I am seeing to wear ivory or white in a second wedding. I certainly don't regret my pink gown, but I also wonder if I had looked more would I have chosen something else. I just tell myself to STOP LOOKING!! UGH! lol
  • When I first got engaged back in 2009, I knew I wasn't getting married for a while so I didn't really do anything besides look at wedding magazines, particularly for dresses. I was totally into huge ball gowns because in my head I wanted to look like a pretty pretty princess, lol. When it came time for dress shopping 2 years later, I found myself gravitating towards more fitted gowns. Turns out the dress I ended up getting is more ball gown than fitted. So i'm not quite sure if my tastes totally changed.

  • I was engaged once before (back in 06). At that point I was planning on wearing a white pant suit because I refused to wear a dress (now I have 2 dresses haha). I also had all intentions of eloping... now that still rings true, however FI wanted the big wedding so I am going ahead with that for him.... I think I would have had a typical military wedding then if I was doing the whole shebang...
