A Friendly Hello

I thought I may stop by this board and pop in.  It's kinda nice to know where other brides stand on or around our wedding date.

Hi, I'm Jackie!  My "FI" and I started planning the wedding in mid November.  This is kind of an odd situation but it's working so far. lol.  FI came up to me one day and said "Just to let you know you'll have about 3 months from the time I ask you to marry me to the time I want to get married."  Well that didn't fly very well at all as you can tell.  So no ring on the finger yet, and very few people know(no STD's out, no Invites, no RSVPs YAY -.- ).  It's kind of interesting trying to figure out how I will get this done when the time comes, but so far so good!  Another tid bit is my parents have both passed so we are financing the wedding and reception ourselves, yay for being budget savy!  But really on that note, we are doing most everything ourselves.  My MOH is my little sister whom I have taken Guardianship of, and she is 14 years old.  My second BM just found out she is pregnant and may very well just have had a baby when the wedding comes.  So I am not relying heavily upon any of the wedding party, maybe this is a mistake but I look forward to handling things.  Sept. 22, 2012 is the big day!!!

Re: A Friendly Hello

  • Well congrats on the engagement! Do you have your venue booked yet? I wouldn't be too set on the date until you get the venue locked down.  I think you should have plenty of time to get everything done! A lot of the girls (including myself) are DIYing a lot of our weddings so you will get a lot of great ideas around here! After the venue I would start looking for a caterer if the venue doesn't have one, photog, dj, the really big things, they tend to book up fast.

Good luck with everything! Have fun with it =]

  • oh wow - that is different! kinda fun tho!
I'd be soooo scared to not have the things I want by waiting that close to D day!

I didn't have a ring at first either; in fact he hadn't actually asked me to marry him until after we found and confirmed our venue LOL  All i got was "well, I guess we're getting married" hahaha

  • congrats!  I also was already planning before being officially engaged with a ring.  We didnt plan on getting married until 2013, but my FI's mom's health is not good, so we moved it up... and needed to get things moving.  He still wanted to have the official proposal and all that.
what do you have planned so far?  colors?  tell us about your plans! we love to hear that stuff!

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Welcome to the board! The ladies on here are really great! I know I can always get truly honest opinions that aren't mean. It's an awesome community!
  • Welcome to the board! :)

  • Welcome to the board :)  Sounds like an interesting scenario, but it sounds like you have it handled.  Lots of us are DIY on here- so feel free to AW your little heart out with your projects and things!!

PS- I'm Jacqui too- spelled differently obviously- and we're date twins.  If you tell me your FI's name is Chris (or even better, spelled differently), I'll love you forever.
  • Wow!!  Thank you for the amazing welcome everyone!!

Kaitiebean- We sure do have our venue(reception, the cerimony is in the mountains) planned and money down on it.  Besides that everything else besides linens for the table is set and ready to go!  Due to the fact that we are using all of our own money and aren't counting on anyone handing us anything to help we aren't catering anything.  Yay for having wonderful friends and family.

Mamameech- Hahahaha.  I hear you there, it is amazingly stressfull thinking about the people that live in different countries, and across the U.S.  I have contacted those that will have to make international flights but my sister lives all the way in South Carolina.  I can't go telling her, my whole family will know.  So here's to hoping she will have enough cash to get up here.  I'm thinking FI is going to ask and make this public sooner than he expected due to that issue.

Kirab- Sorry to hear about your MIL, best of wishes to her.  Plans hehehe.  So far I have tried on two dresses(scary stuff for me, I don't wear dresses), one I thought I would like and decided it would look wonderful on someone other than me lol.  So I still have to make my way down to Colorado again to actually get and finalize my dress and the girls' dresses.  The Cerimony will actually be a Pagan Handfasting which I am super excited about, I am not the conservative/traditional type.  We will be doing that part up in the mountains about 25 mins out of town.  Can't wait for those fall colors on the Aspens.  We've decided on hay bails instead of chairs, and blankets on the ground for those that are comfortable enough to sit on a blanket.  Not too much as of decorating will be done up there due to the fact that the colors and the scenery is why we are getting married in the mountains.  We have decided and have bought two shepards hooks to stand on either side of the altar with some oil lamps in them, considering it may be getting a little darker around the time of the cerimony(3:00pm'ish).  As for the reception, we've decided to go low budget on it.  We are serving hourderves and drinks, pretty much having family help with the food and BYOB, although we have decided to get a keg of our favorite beer made here locally.  The reception will be located at the Cheyenne Depot Museum.  A very beautiful, budget-friendly, and interesting venue for those coming from out of town.  Why not celebrate in a historical landmark?!  Colors are our favorite colors: Orange being mine and Green being his.  Both colors are working out perfectly for the fall season!  No favors, we're the favors!! lol  There is sooo much more, I hadn't realized how many details I really have gone over in my head lol!  Thanks for asking!

Jacqui- LOL!  That is too funny!  My legal name is actually Jacqueline but no one can pronounce it properly so it was changed long ago to Jackie, much easier on the tounge lol.  FI's name is Jeramiah, but that would have been hilarious!  Thanks for the welcome!

    Thank you all again!!
