Escort Cards

How did you ladies put guests names on the escort cards?  We addressed our invites formally as Mr. & Mrs. John Smith but I'm thinking for the escort cards I'd rather do John & Sally Smith.  Does it matter?  Who's name would you put first?  Do you always put the man's name first or do you put the person you know better (ie Sally is my sister) so would I put Sally & John Smith?

I did informal. Like Sally Smith and then John Smith. Our cards go in picture holders which are the favors so each person has one.

I did formal, but in your case, I don't think it really matters whose name you put first.

Ideally you figure out the name for the "& guest" so you can write an escort card for them specifically.

I just wrote out their name informally like Sally Smith. Everyone gets their own though so I didn't have to worry about man or woman coming first, but I imagine that's what I would do. For "and guest" I tried to figure out the names of the people. Buuut, I couldn't figure out 2 so I just wrote "and guest" with the original person's name. They rsvp'd without telling me who it was and made it impossible to get a hold of them to figure it out so I'm not gonna stress about it. =P

I think you usually put the woman's name first in this case "Sally and John Smith" because you aren't supposed to separate the husband's name.
