Cake Dilemma!

Hey girls- so FI and I are not cake people but we love ice cream so we decided very early on that we would do an ice cream cake.  Our ideal cake is a Carvel cake (vanilla, chocolate with crunchies) and we aren't looking to have anything on display just sheet cakes in our colors to feed everyone.  Well, Carvel's are closing down like crazy and there is one near our house who is willing to do a wedding cake but it's an hour away to our reception.  How in the world would I get the cake to our reception site without it melting?  The other obstacle is that all of my close family and friends will already be down near the reception site bc of the rehearsal dinner so I don't even know who I would ask to bring the cake!  Any ideas? :-) TIA!

  • What about an ice cream buffet, an ice cream truck, or cold stone coming out to do something?

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Do they not deliver? Do you have a friend that would be willing to do it that you trust?

As far as it not melting, my only advice would be dry ice!

I like PPs ideas though. I think an ice cream bar or ice cream truck would be a lot of fun! We're having an ice cream truck. :)
  • Are there any Baskin Robbins near your reception venue? You might be able to find an ice cream cake through them that you like.

The only Baskin Robbins is also near our house :-(  I don't want to go with Coldstone bc their cakes have a layer of cake and a layer of ice cream which isn't what we want.  Ice cream bars are a great idea but we really had our hearts set on having an ice cream cake...looks like dry ice and a responsible friend may be the way to go!  Thanks ladies for all your help :-)  I really appreciate it!
  • I don't mean a coldstone cake, I mean they come out and do their mixing right there.
