When are you ordering your BM dresses?

I'm stuck on this one. When should we order?! Sooner or later??

Re: When are you ordering your BM dresses?

  • DD is having all of them order by mid February. This allows enough time for them to come in and any alterations to be done. The store "recomended" they be ordered before Christmas but we thought that was too early!
  • I'm not planning on even looking for BM dresses until March-ish. I figure if my girls order by May they should be fine.

  • i actually had all my bridesmaids order their dresses already. they are from jcrew and the wedding specialist there told me the one was going to be discontinued. i don't think it actually was, but my one BM was able to get a deal on it anyway. the rest all used holiday codes to get 25-30% off, so i'm glad they ordered them. i didn't care when they ordered them, because i knew we had a ton of time, but they all seemed pretty eager after i decided which one each girl would get.

  • It depends on the brand/store.  David's Bridal can get most dresses in within 8 weeks or so.  The dresses I like (Alfred Sung/Dessy Group) take roughly 3-4 months.  To play it safe I would say have bridesmaid dresses ordered by 6 months out.  That way there is time for the dresses to come in, reorder if there are any issues, and have any necessary alterations made.

Also, PP, what does DD stand for?  I'm still learning all this knot lingo.

  • Sorry, DD is for Dear Daughter. She is the bride (thats why my sign in is "bridalmomma" Tongue Out )
Because she is a busy grad student ( also working full time & doing clinicals!) I get to do most of the looking/playing!!  I'm LOViNG it, then I show them what I've found & they give the final yes/no... then I go from there. I'm sooo lucky they are letting me help
  • Done already.... but we are all eager beavers in this family :P

  • I'm just telling them "Find a brown dress you like- preferably chocolate and knee length or so, and not taffeta"  If they find it at Ross for $20, cool.  If they go to a bridal salon and find it for $150, whatever.  That basically gives them til Sept 28 to get one.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • We're gonna order sometime in March....we've pretty much decided on a dress that matches the style of mine.  My BMs made the process too easy...they all say they will wear anything I want!  And the one I (we) like has pockets so they are pretty excited about this!
  • I only have a MOH, no BMs. We're actually going shopping tomorrow. I think we're going to stick with Davids for right now, because a store like Macys may not have one of our wedding colors, because they're mostly fall colors (purple, brown, and champagne). She actually asked me about going shopping soon, but I was not going to ask her about it for a few months still. Im happy to get another check off the list though! :)

  • I did that in July!! I'm a ridiculous planner though and the dress the girls fell in love with was a Monique Llhiour (I know I butchered that last name...) and it was a special edition.

  • I only have one BM and her dress will be off the rack. I will harass her in the next month or so in order to get ideas (she's currently on a world tour) but I will really be happy if she gets her dress by July. Her H is deployed now but they will start TTC in June. That trumps dress shopping but even if she is super lucky and gets pregnant right away I think she can wear any dress come late September.

  • I wasn't going to go until feb or so but ALL of my bridesmaids had been bugging me since like JULY. Literally I didn't even have my dress yet and they were hounding me (in an adorable just being excited way). I finally compromised with them and said wait till I get mine!!!!! I ordered in October end and we went to DB last month. Found the perfect dress and everyone ordered bc it was on sale.

  • The girls bought them in October. We found dresses we liked from Amsale's line of bridesmaid dresses and we were afraid they would get discontinued when the new line came out so we ordered them then. They were suppose to not be ready until Feb but they came in December!

  • We have an appointment on January 21st for BM dresses, Flower Girl and MOB dress.

I'm SO excited to get those checks done.

We're going on February 18th. It's been pretty much impossible to fit it into everyone's schedules so I just told them I have an appointment for a fitting for my dress and we can look at the same time. I've already scheduled a date and then had to cancel it since some of my BMs flaked out. If they can't make it then I gave them some guidelines (short, navy blue, and same fabric) and they can order them on their own.

  • I only have a MOH, no BMS for me. We have an appointment on January 21 and I am hoping if she does not find something that day, that we have something ordered by the end of February.

I think it all depends if you are having designer dresses which can take a while to come in or are selecting dresses off of the rack.
