Dumbfounded (NWR)

I needed to go for my annual check up for my lady parts.  In the past I have gone to a PA working under an OB/GYN but figure that within a few years FI and I will be TTC, I should start getting comfortable with an OB/GYN.  So I went to my new doctor, liked her, no problems.  She refilled my prescription for my birth control.  I am on the generic, Microgestrin.  I go to pick up my Rx at CVS on Monday, and they say th doctor wrote the RX for Junel, a generic that is equivalent to what I take.  I have taken Junel before though and reacted poorly to it--broke out, crazy emotional, moodswings non stop, weight gain--so I refuse to take it.  CVS said since that's what the doctor wrote they couldn't sub it out.  Call my doctors office and finally got in touch today with the receptionist.  She claims the doctor wrote the right Rx but she'd call CVS.

A few minutes later CVS calls saying they have Microgestrin in stock and they got the right RX and it is all straightened out and I could pick up today.  Seconds after hanging up with them the doctor's office calls back and the receptionist tells me CVS no longer carries Microgestrin so I'd just have to take Junel!!!!!  Flat out lied!  I picked up the call at work so I couldn't give her a piece of my mind so I just said Ok and hung up.  Someone must have a quota to hit with their pharmaceutical rep!  Needless to say I won't be going back there....no matter how great a doctor, I'm not going to an office where the staff lies, ignoring a patients well-being.  eff that!  I'm so stunned.  It is all straightened out on my end until my next annual but jeez the nerve of people

This same thing happened to me when I took Junel! It was the generic of the medicine I was taking as well. I cound't figure out what was wrong with me. It was AWFUL! Luckily I had a great Dr. that changed the script right away, but I will NEVER take Junel again! I hope it works out, and you find an office that's a better fit for you because that really sucks.

  • Wow!  I can't believe that.  For your sake I hope it was just miscommunication between CVS and the receptionist.  I think I would mention it to the doctor the next time you see them too.

  • Ridiculous. I would double check what you get from CVS is in fact what you need. Look at the packaging and everything to make sure its not still mixed up. My OB/GYN actually did the opposite for me. She saw what had been suggested by another doc and told me it wasn't a wise choice due to common mood swings, PMS and heavy flow. So she put me on what she thought was better and it def was. Its terrible when you can't trust someone in the medical field though!

  • I take one specific BC after trying quite a few and having bad experiences, and won't be changing! Due to moving a ton over 6 years I've seen quite a few different drs and MANY try to get me to change my mind... Grr!

Wow!  I would change offices as well, but before you do, you should call the office and ask to speak to your doctor directly!  I have done this before with my OB/GYN and they are great about calling you back.  You need to tell her what her staff is doing!

Once I was having a terrible reaction to my BC and I called the office to talk to the doctor.  The receptionist told me to "chill out, you probably have a yeast infection or were'nt careful enought and now you have an STD...no need to talk to the doctor."  I lost it with her and refused to speak to her.  I told the receptionist to never call me again and that I would only speak with my doctor.  Turns out I was right, no yeast infection/STD....common, although unpleasant side effect of the BC.  Doctor took care of it.

I had this issue too, which is why I switched probably 3 years ago. The gyno i was seeing was in a huge office with massive waiting lines. When I would come in, she had no idea who I was or any issues I had had. If I tried to tell her an issue she was just like "Yeah uh huh, uhuh.." and wasn't listening. I was having abdominal pain issues and wanted to see if she thought it was gyn. related and instead she blurted out "Have you seen a gastro doctor? Because that's not my thing." Instead of looking into if my repro stuff was involved she just dismissed it. Jerk.
