How do we fix this??

Okay, so we've made a huge boo boo with the RSVPs... we didn't clearly ask people to indicate their meal choices for each person so now we have a huge pile of people RSVPing yes but no clue which person wants which meal. All we know is couple A wants 1 crab cakes and 1 filet mignon and couple B wants 2 crab cakes, etc.

We're considering doing paper airplanes as escort cards, any cute ideas on how to put two little crabs with couple B or a crab and filet choice for couple A?

FI's thought was to do one escort card for a couple and have two pieces attached to the paper airplane so they could take it out and put at their spot to let the wait staff know which meal they're getting. I feel like such a dummy for messing that up!

  • First off, your menu sounds delicious! Yum.

My concern with your fiance's idea of splitting off the escort card is that it might be confusing. How are you planning on explaining to guests how they're supposed to place it correctly?

I'm doing individual escort cards, and I'll note on each person's card what their meal is. If it's not clear from the RSVP who wants what, I know I'm going to have to call them to clarify. (like, if I know a couple wants the filet and pasta, I'll have to clarify to know who specifically wants each)
  • Regarding your fiances idea, I would know that the little notes are to be set in front of the person who wants the entree.  I wouldn't need instruction.

  • I think you could easily just have the 'couples' escort card show what two options they want.  Most couples will put the escort card either at one seat or in between both of their seats.  Then the server might just have to ask who wants which (WORSE case scenario they place the wrong meal in front of Mr. X and he just has to switch plates with Mrs. X.
  • I think if  you do a couples escort card with the selections on it, it won't be that hard to figure out. I'm sure the server can ask "Ok, I have two plates, who gets A and who gets B" if they're not sure, I've had that before at a wedding.

  • I would do what others have said- do one card per couple. That's what we're doing. We asked people to initial their choice but I'm sure there will be a few with just check marks.

  • I think the separate pieces of paper on the escort card is a really good idea!  And I would definitely not instructions to figure out what to do with it.  I went to wedding in June and no one really indicated who was getting what, so me and FI just switched our plates after we served.  No big deal, not the end of the world, we still ate good food :)
  • Maybe I'm super lazy, but my venue just needs a head count.

We're putting the count on the back of the table number and indicating what each couple has ordered.
