September 2012 Weddings

5 years...

Where do you see you and FH in 5 years from now?

Re: 5 years...

  • I hate this question.  I feel like there are so many possibilities.  In 5 years I would LOVE to be a practicing PA or RN but who knows when the right timing will be to go back to school.  I hope I'd be KU or TTC a little beforehand.  The problem is I always moved as a kid and I would love to be able to have kids once FH and I are stable (as in own a home, pretty much in a location where we could always find work, etc.).  People tell me that's not how it goes though...
  • Neither of us will be working our day jobs anymore (seeing as we're leaving them next year, just keeping them to add income right now for the wedding), and just working our business that we own. Depending on how things go with Children's Aid we'll have adopted atleast one, maybe more children. Own our own house (we're going house hunting after the wedding).
  • things at this point are up in the air for me ....i was hoping we would be moving back to my hometown at the end of the year...but not sure if i will be working for the same company...i would love for us to be in our own home in 5 yrs....instead of renting
  • I am with AngB1230, everything is up in the air up because of factors with the FI family businesses and his father's pending divorce. Once that dust settles, we get to work on a 5 year plan.So far the only thing FI and I have is that I will be going back to school come January, he wants to give me a break after the wedding to just do two things, work and work out. He doesnt want me to add anything else to my plate until after the first of the year.

    Anniversary Vacation
  • we'll be living in our little house still, maybe with a cat or a dog. he might be starting his MBA by then. we'll be a lot closer to paying off our house, though it'll still be a few years away. when we pay it off, we may start looking to upgrade. we might have changed our minds about kids by then but for now we've decided to wait to think about it for 10 years. (in 5 years i'll be 28 and he'll be 29).

he'll have gotten his PE by then and may be taking on more of a tech lead role at his work. hopefully i will have figured out more which way i want to go (tech or management), and started working towards that.

maybe we'll have redone the kitchen by then?!
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • If all goes well, we will be enjoying our new home and a new family member or two. We plan to be moved by next fall (so 1 year after the wedding) and I'd like to start "trying" in the Spring (2013). I don't want to have another child until we are moved but I don't want to wait too long to start trying because who knows how long it will take or if it is even possible.

No matter what tho, I just hope we are both happy and healthy. You never know what life has in store and I just want to make the most of every day... with FI by my side :)

  • In 5 years...

We'd like to own a home and have at least one kid.  I may or may not do another masters program.  I'd like for him to have an idea of whether or not he wants to pursue a masters degree so we can plan accordingly.  We'll probably still be in Chicago, though I wouldn't rule out moving to Michigan (where I'm from).
  • Oh jeez. Um, well hopefully I will be finished my phd in neuroscience (scheduled to attempt to defend Summer 2013) and done with a post doc. So yeah, hopefully in 5 years I will be entering "real job" territory. I'd like for us both to be making a crap ton of money. Possibly we can break 150K combined which is our 5 year goal. FI will hopefully be working a new job that pays a bit more. Where will we be? Who knows.

  • I just bought a 3 br house on my own a year ago so in five years, we'll have turned one or two of the spare bedrooms into nursuries and we'll have probably upgraded the backyard to be a nice space to hang instead of just grass...  (you know that show on HGTV where they totally transofrm the yard?)... Hopefully FH will have a better paying job and maybe I'll be making more at mine.
Oh.. and a newer late-model car would be nice!

  • Hopefully I'll be accepted to and done with med school by then.  If for some reason I'm not accepted anywhere after a couple tries, I might go with PA school.  FI might be getting his masters soon, so hopefully he'll be done with that.

Other than that, I'd like an awesome vacation to Europe in there.  That's all the plans I have for the next 5 years.  :)

  • I love to think about where we'll be in five years!! Its fun to dream :)

In five years, Tim will have graduated from grad school by then and started the nursery on his family's tree farm. I'm hoping that we will own our own home and will (hopefully) have atleast one child by then. I am hopeful that we will be happy, healthy, and able to pay some of these student loans off! ;)

  • Besides happily married, I hope that I have, or am close to having my MBA (I plan to start part time next spring).  I know FI really wants to get a business idea of the ground, so hopefully that will succeed and he can quit his job and go to that full time.  Hopefully have one kid, maybe even two and live in a larger home but still own my current place as a rental property.

  • Annnnnd babies. Lots of babies. :) Kevin and I are most likely going to TTC close to right after the wedding, so who knows. Our lease is up next March so we'd like to be homeowners too. I teach so there's basically not much in terms of salary I can dream about, but hopefully Kevin kicks ass at his new job and moves up the ranks!

  • I'm going to jump on the homeowner's wagon. We're thinking of moving to NC closer to his family. That way I would be literally right in the middle of my mom(SC) and my dad(VA). I hate never seeing my dad because he's 8 hours away and with my mom's new husband, I could use a little space. Plus, I love his family (well, his dad's side is awesome). I don't have a whole lot of career options, which is pretty lame, ut what can ya do? I do want to push FI to go back to school after the wedding so may he'll be finishing that up around then...? Mostly, I just want him to have a job he likes. I feel bad because he makes the most money but hates his job so much. I'm fine with whatever because my favorite things to do are not something I could make money with. =P

    In 5 years...

We hope to have two kids and be living in our own house.  Happy and still in love :)  Working who cares where, as long as it provides.  I like life simple and don't want to plan too much beyond what's necessary.  Take life as it comes.
  • So many possbilities!  A LOT can happen in 5 years.

What I do know though, is we plan on starting a family as soon as we get married so in 5 years I hope to have at least a toddler and another one on the way.  We would like to be either in a nice condo or starting the process of buying our first home. Also, FI just earned his degree in business marketing so if he is unable to find a position within his current company (he currently works in a retail store for AT&T and would like to move to the marketing side, this may require us to move to Orange County)
he plans on chasing down a few leads within the entertainment marketing industry.

As for myself, my dream is to be a SAHM, but just in case I'm not able to, I plan on going back to school next year for my paralegal degree. Which means in 5 years, I hope to be a SAHM and if not, then a paralegal working at a nice law firm.
