AW: Something Borrowed

I just found out yesterday that Dan's mom offered to let me borrow her pearl earrings for our wedding. I've actually been stumped on what my something borrowed will be, and I don't have any of my jewelry picked out. I haven't seen them yet, but I'm really touched that she would offer them to me.

my parents didn't have a big wedding, they were engaged for about 6 months when they eloped. i don't think my mom has any "nice" jewelry because she never got that far in the planning (and i don't think my dad ever gave her anything like that). they got divorced when i was 2, so i didn't really want to borrow anything from her because i'd see it as a symbol of their relationship and i don't want our relationship to be like theirs (aka not get divorced after 8 years!). i'm not very close with my mom so it would just be weird too. so unless one of my grandmas were to offer me something to "borrow", i think these might be it!

on the flip side, dan's parents have been happily married for like 26 or 27 years now, so i'd much rather symbolize that in our wedding. though his mom might be kind of crazy sometimes (ie if you read my post about his sister's bridal shower and that fiasco), they are really welcoming most of the time and very wonderful to me. i'm really excited and touched!
Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • That's so sweet :)

I have a business mentor that I have looked up to INCREDIBLY for the last 2 years, and she's offered to let me where her veil! It is just pas shoulder length, and is a comb veil, so no tiaras or anything... very much what I would have purchased anyway :)
  • Aww how sweet!  I'm borrowing a friends slip from her wedding.  Also, my mom's mom passed 7 years ago and left my mom her rosary from her 1st communion.  I'm going to carry it down the aisle and go figure it is blue!   So my grandma's rosary is techincall borrowed, old (67 years old!), and blue.  But since our colors are royal blue and black my shoes are blue in case I can't double dip haha

Thats so nice!  I haven't even begun to think about something borrowed, etc.  Oy.
  • Aww that is really sweet. It's so nice to feel welcomed like that :)
I was very flattered that my FI's mother gave him her engagement ring to use for our own ring. She likes me :)
