Re: NWR- What do you do?

  • I agree that this is a great thread! I graduated with my BA back in 1995 and then earned my MBA in 2000. Now I'm a marketing campaign analyst for a publishing company.

  • I'm a cook. It's really an underpaid and under appreciated job. We break our backs every day to cook food for people who don't know how or don't want to cook, and no one ever says thank you. Our job doesn't just consist of cooking, it's also lifting heavy items, burns, falling on the tile floor, having pots fall on your head and standing in a 0 degree (F, so below freezing) freezer... and that working in a fairly safe kitchen!

So all that complaining to say, please thank the cooks who prepare food for your wedding (and next time you go out)... I've had my food complimented many, many times and know that I'm good at what I do, but I've been thanked for my hard work only a small handful of times, and every time I have it has totally made my day! We also had a very sweet bride who was on a really strict diet (all raw food, which means nothing cooked or processed... think: no milk, eggs, flour, roasted nuts, bread crumbs etc.) and she sent us a handwritten letter thanking us for cooking (or not cooking...) for her wedding, it was really sweat and they hung it up next to the time clock for everyone to see.
  • Great post idea, so interesting to read what everyone does!

I graduated in 2007 with a BS in Biology from Stonehill College. I work at Yale in IT specifically for Oncology. I love my job, healthcare + it = :)

Cpasquale "I am a CPA. I graduated with a bachelors in accounting and now work at a local public accounting firm. I'm also working on getting my MBA. FUN STUFF RIGHT??"

Me too!  I used to love it, but not so much anymore.  Guess I need to go back to the drawing board and figure out something else to try.  I just recently assembled a cook book for my fiance's family, the recipes were his late grandmother's, and I had a blast doing it.  It would be awesome to find a job doing something like that.  I am also really into sustainable living (i.e. growing our own food, solar power, not being wasteful, etc.), so would be cool to find a job in this line of work too.  Any ideas?

    Love this thread!!

  • I have my BA in Accounting and I'm currently the Payroll Administrator for a local Police Department.  I love my job, working with the cops all day is so much fun.  I also have two middle school girls that I tutor in math after work, and I'm an independent contractor for a local environmental contracting company, doing their payroll.  I love what I do and wouldn't change any of it.

This was such a good idea, it's so much fun knowing what everyone does :-)

  • Wow, this is so fun to read what all of you do! I wish I could comment on each and every one of you!

I work in higher education in an academic division. I am currently pursuing my masters degreee in international education though because I want to work in study abroad and globalization of college campuses. It's been very difficult finding jobs in my field even though I lived and worked in Rome, Italy for three years AND was able to work for one year at a college in the area. Everyone keeps telling me I need a masters degree, so here I am: trying to go to school and plan a wedding at the same time!

It seems like a lot of you are in the same boat as me though. How are you staying sane?!?! This is really difficult!
  • I am a full time hair stylist and absolutely love it! I specialize in hair color and am currently studying to become Board Certified Haircolorist. I don't think I will ever just do color in the salon though because I love vutting ot the color and coloring to the cut. I have been thinking of going back to school to learn more about the chemistry of hair but I think that for Christmas I am going to by myself a textbook and try to further myself a little more firdt!

  • i got my bachelors in Psyc in 2008 and I worked as a research assistant for a couple years. Now, I work for an organization that helps kids with developmental disabilities. The department I work in helps kids transition from high school to a work setting. I do that part-time, and my other job is a bridal consultant. :)
