I am taking a look at the budget and trying to find areas we can save on.  One thing I am considering cutting is a Day of Coordinator.  I don't need any vendor referrals, I'm almost totaly done planning and our minister has agreed to come to the rehearsal to help run it.  I'd eliminate the Day of Coordinator immediately but I do have one question:  Who opens the chapel doors for me and my dad?  We are renting the facility, so there is no representative from the chapel to open the doors for me to walk down the aisle and my bridesmaids will obviously have already gone to the alter, it will just be me and my dad.  Should we just use door stops and leave the doors open the whole time or do I need to have her there?

I think you could leave them open and then walk through the doors from the side instead of having the doors open and you guys standing there. Like, the doors would be already opened, and you guys walk from around the corner and into the doorway. Did that make any sense? lol I have no clue how to articulate what's in my head.

You could just assign tasks like that to family members. I'll bet a lot of them would love to help

I wish I could cut ours; I love her but I'm an event planner myself so it's not needed for the planning part. But our turn around at our venue is about 30mins-1hr - crazy eh? And there are things that will go from the church to the venue, a lot of little details to set up at the venue and with all the people and all we have going on, I won't have to worry about any mishaps because she will handle them. To me, it's something I cannot afford to cut but sounds like you could. If you can save the $$ and get family/friends involved, do it!

I was figuring my ushers would open the door for me. We aren't having a DOC, and I never even really considered it. The reception hall has a coordinator that is super helpful and friendly and nice, and i'm sure she will take care of everything for me there. i'm not sure how big your wedding is but maybe you have a few spare relatives that would love to help? i know a couple of my aunts are super excited and want to do whatever they can to help. i figure i can give them an odd job or two and they will be more than happy to help. do you have anyone like that?

We aren't getting married in a church, and leading into our venue area is glass doors, so we'll have them propped open and walk in from around the corner

I'm sure there is someone that wouldn't mind opening the doors. Or maybe you could prop on open and then your dad could open the door, prop it, and you guys could walk? Idk, but I would def cut the DOC. I don't really need one either so that's an expense we don't have to worry about thankfully.

I never thought of asking the ushers to open the doors.  I guess the only trick is that when the doors open, they are at the top of a flight of stairs (fingers crossed I don't fall and kill myself).  I'll walk down the stairs and then down the aisle.  I know there is some sort of back entrance so the ushers could open the doors for me and then walk down the side steps and sit in the back pew?

Cousins? Some family members eager to help? Your dad can also open the door for you, you step in and wait for him to get beside you. My ushers are my cousins and they can open the door. They will have other responsibilities too, this one can't be too much to ask. I wonder though about the day of coordinator; she does more than recommend vendors. For example who will decorate the ceremony hall and the reception area? Who will hang the flowers, get the candles ready if you have them, who will deal with the music, who will set up all the tables we want (guest book, memory, cake and sweets, seating card table, I can't even think of everything it is giving me a panick attack). The tables will be set but will the waiters also put out your decorations and flowers the way you wanted? I just found out we get tables and chairs but not sure about the table cloths, I need to ask. The more I think about the details the more I think we need someone that day who is not in the BP and not a guest, to do the work that needs to be done in advance. These are questions I still need to ask and then assign the tasks to someone. It would be helpful to have one person who knows how to organize and get things done and also knows how to delegate.
