Question....

Hey guys,

I am well into the planning and only really have the 'little things' left to do. But I keep getting this feeling that I haven't done enough for the reception. I keep thinking that the decor isn't enough.

I am wondering if there is something I can add, i dont want things to be overberring, but I dont want the hall to be blah either. Anyway, here is what im doing for the reception, please feel free to give me some (cheap) ideas to add to jazz it up a bit.

oh, and fyi our colours are royal blue black and white

Tables: We are going with white table cloths and a royal blue table runner.

Centrepieces (its not spelt wrong im Canadian :P): We are getting medium height vases and putting some royal blue and black acrylic 'glass' pieces with a white calla lilly in water with the floating candles. We are also going to have blue and white flower petals scattered on the table.

Escort cards: These will be placed where the guest is sitting, We have named our tables after our favourite bands and on the inside of the card will be a random fact about the band

Gift Table: We are going fairly simple with this, a black or blue (haven't decided yet table cloth and then just have a 'money box' which will be two boxes wrapped as presents to match our colours

Cake Table: will feature none other than... the cake! and I was thinking of putting some of our engagement pictures in basic frames, possibly some flower petals as well.

Chairs: are going to be black with a royal blue sash

So that's about it, nothing really too fancy, suggestions please!

Also, im not too crafy so i would prefer to leave the DIY out unless its simple. I was thinking of including a larger card with the table names and maybe putting the lyrics to our favourite songs by the band... too much?

HELP PLEASE. and thank you :)

Re: Question....

  • I'd add votives, perhaps 3 votives on each dinner table and maybe 8 scattered around the cake table? I think the more candlelight, the more magical the room ends up looking :) Heh, but maybe I just like fire too much, lol!

  • Hmmmm. What about a few extras around the room to tie in your colors more. What about a blue signature cocktail? Or are you having a cocktial hour? I bought personalized napkins from theknot store when they were on sale (15.99 for 100 of them). But you could also pick up some plain ones for super cheap in your wedding colors.

  • Does your venue allow the use of candles outside of floating candles? I know each venue has their own rules... but adding candles usually does help add that 'feeling'

If your venue doesn't allow candles, look for those LED flickering tealights. They are pretty inexpensive on Amazon and last for something like 15 hours, so you can turn them on pretty much when you set up, and let 'em go through the end of the night. We're using those, as our venue is a no-go with fire (historical landmark site).

as far as the signature drink, we have one planned but my mom is paying for all the alcohol soooo we will see how that goes lol
