Pre-Ceremony, Cocktail, Dinner MUSIC

Hi September Brides~

I am trying to find music for my pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner.

I am thinking of Vitamin String Quartet for the pre-ceremony but I have no idea what I should do for the cocktail hour and dinner.  Should they be different styles?

I was thinking of some norah jones, ben harper, jack johnson..but no idea where to put them in.  Any help - the music has been the hardest aspect of planning so far!

Thank you in advance!

Re: Pre-Ceremony, Cocktail, Dinner MUSIC

  • Are you using a DJ or an ipod? The reason I ask is if you're using a DJ this is actually pretty easy... I just gave our DJ a few songs as an example and he's running with it from there :)

    We are using a DJ....
  • If you have a DJ it's really his/her responsibility to make it all fit. Just give them the type and feel of music you want and they should be able to work it out. They should have a lot of experience in this area.

We're using an iPod so I have been working on play lists.

    Pre-Ceremony - VSQ

Cocktail hour - blues and vocal jazz
    Dinner - instrumental jazz
    Dessert - Latin jazz

We're not having dancing and I thought that was a decent mix that most people could enjoy and wouldn't be too distracting.

  • If you have a DJ I would do as I suggested then, give them a couple examples of what you like and then trust them to run with it. He/she is a professional, that's why you hired them :)
  • agree with PP.... we just told our DJ to use his professional opinion.  I figure we hired him for a reason, gotta trust them ;)
  • Yeah...I basically decided to just trust my quartet/DJ. For the ceremony, I gave the quartet the songs for seating of the mothers, bridal party entrance, my entrance, and then the recessional. I told them to just fill in the blanks for the rest of the ceremony + cocktail hour. I did the same for my DJ. I gave him the songs for all of the special moments (entrances, first dance, cake cutting, etc) and told him to fill in the blanks. I did give a couple of songs that I definitely wanted to hear (5 or 6).
