Rental Question

We are just starting to look into rentals (table, chair, linen, etc). One company is cheapest on chairs, another on tables, another on linens, and yet another on dishes. Is it prudent to rent from several companies, or should I go with the company that is cheapest on the item I need the most of? Is it okay to try to talk a company down on rental prices?

Re: Rental Question

  • Personally I would just go with one company.  Keeping track of multiple vendors just seems more stress/hastle.  I also think that if you are getting multiple items from one company they should be able to work with you on price some.
  • I think it would depend on how much you're saving. If its just a little, it might not be worth the hassle of multiple vendors. If its a lot, I could see myself doing it for sure!
  • If they each have delivery fees, that would probably eat up the savings right there, so that's a piece to think about as well! And yeah, I'd hate to have to remember what came from where, and accidentally return the wrong items to the wrong vendor.

  • Unless you are saving a FORTUNE... I would stick with one vendor. I would also express to each of the vendors that you are renting all of these items, and you were hoping to get a discount if you stay with one vendor.  I just had to buy my "carpet runners", which were going to end up being about $450.00 with shipping.  I said "wow, I was really hoping to get a discount.  He gave me all of the rugs for $360.00 and gave me the stakes to stake them to the grass free.
I also emailed my invitation spot AFTER I ordered my invitations telling them I was dissapointed that the original 25% coupon I originally had expired, and how I was only able to use the 10% coupon that was currently being offered.  Well, they refunded me the 15% difference.

It doesn't hurt to ask.  All they can say is no.  And most likely, one of them will say yes.
  • When I was looking at rental items almost every place I went to said they would match other rental quotes for individual items so if they were higher on one item they would bring it down to your other quote so you didnt have to rent from multiple vendors. They want all of your business so it can't hurt to ask if they would do the same!

This is what I would do.  Decide which company you like best and take all of the other quotes to them.  They may match or even beat the competition.
