Tips?

I'm going for my hair and make-up trials soon and I'm curious.  Do I need to tip the hair and make-up artist for the trial, the bridal portrats and the wedding day?  Just wedding day?  Not at all?

Who else do I need to tip?  I know the DJ and the limo guy.  Our servers tips are included with our food bill.

I was reading on TK and they say you need to tip people like the florist/cake baker when they deliver the flowers/cake, but that seems excessive.  I don't even think I will see her because I'll be getting ready when she is setting up!

Can you guys help me out so I'm not super rude?

Re: Tips?

  • So if my limo guy owns his own business I don't need to tip him?

<div>Technically, no. I personally don't go by that rule though, I just don't feel right NOT tipping someone. My photographers own their own business but there's no way I'm not tipping them (unless they royally screw up at the wedding or something). </div>

  • Oh I wish I knew but while we're on the topic when should tips be given? Must it be at the event? Personally I would like to wait until the event is over and tip appropriately.

<div>I think generally the tips are calculated ahead of time, placed in envelopes, and then a designated person (bridal party member, parent of the B or G, etc) hands them out at the end of the event.</div><div>
</div><div>I'll admit that this seems weird to me because I'm used to tipping based on service and not a preset amount, so if for some reason my DJ sucked I would be hesitant to hand over his envelope with a 20% (or whatever it is) tip in it, KWIM?</div>

  • I think tips are calculated in advance and placed in envelopes and given to the vendor at the end of the evening.  If the service is really poor you can always adjust the tip or with hold it if it's really awful.

  • I'm probably going to be the only one who is against tipping...but I'm only tipping 15% of my catering bill and 15% of my bar. That will go towards the wait staff and bartenders and that is only because it is MANDATORY.

My church is charging me $950 freaking dollars and I HAVE to use their "musical director" even though we are brining in a harpist (who by the way we are NOT tipping since she gets $350 for less than an hours work-ceremony only). So no one there is getting a tip or a "donation to the church".

Our DJ company contracts out the individual DJ's, 1/2 the fee goes to the company the other 1/2 to the actual DJ and the fee is due the day of the wedding. This is probably the only person I'm considering tipping.
