Programs? Do or Don't ? Can't decide

Sooo...originally, I wasn't going to do programs.  Just thought they were a waste of money and that most people don't really look at them.  However, now that we are getting closer to the day and I see many, many program ideas and pictures on pinterest (which btw I am completely obsessed with...pin, pin, pin...all. day. long.)  I'm kind of thinking...well maybe we should have programs.  It's a nice stationery memory of the day-of (as opposed to the invitations).

With that said...what are you girls doing?

Are any of you doing them yourself?

Re: Programs? Do or Don't ? Can't decide

  • I was in the same mind set of do not do programs until we mapped out our ceremony with the pastor and realized that we have some info ppl may not understand without a program-like aspen saplings (instead of unity candles/sand) feet washing ceremony, and the readings by the fathers. I saw this cute idea of a layered look program and found intructions so we will probably do those.
  • I am doing programs, and doing them entirely myself. Designed in Microsoft Powerpoint, printed on cardstock and assembled. We are doing a Cord of Three Strands ceremony, which I am assuming most haven't seen, so I wanted to do them mainly for that reason.

  • We're doing a program because it's a traditional church mass that not everyone will be familiar with.

Ours isn't that fancy or artsy- the parish secretary basically sends me a template, we fill it out and email it back.

  • I'm still debating whether to do them and considered making a similar post.

We're having a tiny, 25ish person wedding but most of the guests have never met. My family and guests live out of state so they haven't met his family here. It seems silly to have a program that lists have the guests (parents, bridal party) but at least then they would know who was who. It would also give us a chance to acknowledge FH's late mother.

Our ceremony will be short and sweet and I am not sure if we really need to give the breakdown. It would give us a spot to cite the "readings" we're incorporating into the ceremony. They'll probably just be read by the officiant so it seems odd for him to stop and give the source.

If I do decide on programs they'll either be something very simple I do by myself with card stock and a paper cutter or I will contact the artist who did our invitations. She was very reasonable and fast.

  • What's your ceremony like?  If it's a church of any kind I would recommend doing them so that people who aren't familiar with the ceremony can follow along.  We are having a Catholic Mass so we're doing them.

Em- I didn't even think to check with the church to see if we could bring in our own or had to follow a template...thanks for bringing that up!  Oh and I just LOVE your invites!
