Invites *sigh*

So originally I just wanted to order invites.  I didn't want anything super fancy or difficult.  Just something that comes in the mail, I assemble and address, then I send them out.

Then my mom got a cricut paper cutter machine thing for her birthday a while back.  She was saying stuff like, "I'm so excited to help make things for the wedding with it."  So we decided that we were going to DIY the invites.  I started looking for inspiration ideas and coming up with designs, and I found some stuff that I really like.  We were going to print them up and assemble them in the next couple weeks, then send them out by the beginning of July.

Now with my sister in the hospital, my mom has been 1000 miles away for the past 2 weeks, and she's going to be basically travelling back here for work and heading back there anytime she has a few days off until my sis gets better.  It just hit me last night that with everything going on there's no way I'll be able to deal with DIYing invites, and I'm back to square 1.  With just over a month before they have to be sent, I now have to find invites I like and order them.  I'm not really upset, but it's frustrating.

Re: Invites *sigh*

  • Have you ever though about paying someone to design them and then bringing the designs to a print shop where they can print/cut them and all you have to do is assemble?  Might be cheaper then buying a bunch.  Also, people on here love VP.  I couldn't find anything that worked for me on there but they are always running deals so you never know... maybe you will be lucky!
  • Sorry to hear about your sister. DIYing invites is no cup of tea to me. I started working on mine and I am wishing I would have ordered now !! I am sure there is someway you can get these invites to you and mailed out in one month. Try looking locally . Good luck !!

  • OH HONEY!!!  Firstly, I really wish that I could pour giant glasses of wine/cups of tea and just send them across the internet.

Second, check out either Wedding Paper Divas or actually Target has some really beautiful print your own invitations... You'll figure it out!

And I get that frustrated feeling...

  • I agree, if you can find anything on VP there's a group on this board right now!
Also Michaels has some nice kits, and if you use coupons it works great :)
  • Try mygatsby.com - you can customize them online, they're not expensive and I ordered mine on April 26th and received them on May 15th.

I'm super sorry about your sister, I hoep she gets better soon!

  • Ugh.. I'm sorry about your sister.  I got my invites from theamericanwedding.com and they arrived in about 7-9 days.  I also got some samples from vistaprint and weddingpaperdivas and they were very nice !!

I know it sucks that you put that effort into designing/coming up with ideas, etc. and now you just are just going to order them.  Hopefully, once you get them ordered, at least it will be something off your plate.
  • I'm sorry to hear about your sister!  I hope she gets well soon.  You can also try etsy for invites.  We got ours from there and they aren't complicated but they are elegant and I love them.  We even got them addressed by the person who made them so all we have to do is assemble and mail!  They're a little pricy but I'm sooo not a DIY person so for me it was worth the extra money.  The turn around time was only a few weeks once they had all the information.  Good luck :-)
  • Thanks for all the suggestions and well wishes, ladies.  I spent some time looking at invites online today, and I'm feeling a little better.  Maybe once all this is over, my mom and I can get together to make programs or something.  Then we'll get our DIY together, and we won't have to get it done with everything else going on.

  • Another website, which is the one I used, is lovevsdesign.com

You can print your own or they can print them for you! They have really awesome designs and are willing to work with you so you can change whatever you want on them. They aren't very expensive either!

I have tried doing a lot of DIY things and have found that when I just leave it to someone else, it looks better, gets done sooner, and there is just one less thing I have to work on each day. This may be a blessing in disguise. Hope your sister gets well soon!
  • Sorry to hear about your sister. Hope she feels better soon! I too at first went the DIY route. Until I figured out it was actually cheaper to have them all printed for me, so I ordered my invitations from a local printing company, and had them back in a week and I absolutely love them! like you said....you can always find more DIYing to do together. Good luck!
  • Sorry to hear this. We just ordered ours from David's bridal online. They arrived 5 days after we ordered and I think the prices are pretty good and the quality is excellent. You can order a sample first if you want too (I think it was free!)
