NWR: Work Question

Are you a person who works away from work? Or when you go home are you done, and that's your time?

The ladies in my office were just having this conversation.  One lady wanted to know how to access her email from home and I asked "why?"  She said in case she needs to answer a question or something.  I told her "when I go home, or I'm on vacation, that's MY time. It can wait til I get back or someone can figure it out."

Re: NWR: Work Question

  • THERE YOU ARE! I was just thinking how i hadn't seen you on here in a while!

    Anyway...

For my stupid FT job I shut my brain off the minute I punch out. I don't even think about it or want to. For my farm job, I do go over there when I am not working but its either to ride four wheelers, show a friend around, or because I have a general concern for a certain animal. It's only because i am passionate about it, but at the same time it drives me up a wall when I get a text from certain other farm employees telling me about something that can wait till I come in.
  • For my day job, work is work and when I leave I leave for the most part. Sometimes work follows me in the sense friends/family have insurance related questions but that's it.

My business is part of my life and occupies random times and I love it :)
  • I'll check my work email at home if I am waiting for information or I just feel like it. same with answering texts or calls from co-workers or patients. I spend enough time at work doing non-work related things (like posting this!) that I don't feel like it's an issue.

  • I'm working on a phd in neurobiology. I *never* stop thinking about it. (Not great for my mental health lol)

  • CowgirlK- I've TRIED to be on here numerous times, but every time I go to post something, everything disappears.  So I've said "THE HELL WITH IT" and gone to the FB page mostly.

It lets me post in other boards sometimes, but not this one.

  • I'd love to leave work at work and  not think about it when I leave... but the truth is that my job follows me into my personal life.  I check email and usually get calls from bosses on my time off.  I don't think they understand what time off means.  I have been making a much bigger effort lately to not check my email when I'm home but I usually end up checking a few times a day just in case something crucial happens.

I need to get my butt on the FB page... I keep forgetting to look it up!

I used to have a coworker who would get mad at me Monday AM if I didn't remember what exactly we had done Fri PM. However that was a mixture of me not thinking about work at all, while she was the type who sat at home and dwelled on what had happened during the day. I'd go batty if I sat at home and thought about work all evening!

I definitely leave work at work.  FI's work sometimes comes home but he owns his own company that he is trying to build so sometimes I work on that.  But, except for in my HR folder, I don't even think anyone here knows my cell phone number or personal email and I like it that way!
  • When I leave work, everything stays at work :)  If I have to work overtime on the weekends I can do it at home sometimes which is nice!  My FI on the other hand brings work home with him and is constantly answering e-mails from his phone, drives me insane!
