Invitations

need your advise..

my FI finally finished the PDF for the invitations, and we found some cheap invites to print them on at Michaels, on $9 for 100 with the 40% off, we need 400 since there are 4 different inserts and such..

So our printer is totally broken. .. is it worth it to buy a new printer basically just for this? or do you think i can go to like Kinkos or staples or something and they can print them out? Or should i be trying to find a print shop?

ideas?

Re: Invitations

  • The printer at kinko's will probably look nicer, but at 400 pages I'm not sure how much that would cost. If I were in  your shoes I'd take it all to kinko's and ask them to quote you a price.

  • I would also get a few quotes (kinkos, office depot, staples, local printers) before you make a decision. Try to get comprable types of paper.

If all your wording is in black then it might be cheaper to just buy a printer. However, you should really calculate how much ink will cost you. If you think it willl take 3 cartridges, get 6. You also probably want to buy an extra box of invites just to be sure. If you don't need them, don't open them and return them.

    Good luck!
  • Yes, its grey, orange and black  so it will need to be color printed...

my FBIL has a really nice, professional quality printer, but he lives over an hour away, I keep asking my FI to ask him if we could come over and print, and we could just pay him for the ink we use... but that hasnt happened

  • Just for reference, I asked Staples about printing on two sides of the inside of a card for our accommodations card.  For 150, it was going to be about $15 for black ink.

  • I think you should ask yourself if you need/want a new printer anyway. If my printer broke, I'd want to replace it whether it was for invitations or not. If you would like a new printer for things beyond your invites, I'd just get a new printer.

Our invitations were one of the Brides kits from Michael's, and they did not work in our printer. The card stock was much too thick to run through the printer spool. So, be careful - even if you buy a new printer, you may still end up going somewhere to print them. That's what we had to do, ultimately. We went to a Fedex Office store (formerly Kinko's), and they printed ours for 12 cents each, I believe. Ours were only black and white, though. Be sure to have extras handy because even the print shop makes mistakes and needs to do testers.
