Nerves!

My nerves are getting to me today.  My FI's best friend is joining the army and is leaving in a month, they are so close(his best friend picked my FI to be his best man in his wedding rather than his brothers).  I've also known him since my junior year of high school, and today is his suprise going away party.  I didn't want this day to come and I knew it would :(  I feel like I am going to be a mess tonight!  We wanted him to be the best man in our wedding but of course you can just ask for a day off when you join the military.  I would like to mention him in our programs though because he means so much to us, what should I say?  Maybe something like this.... "We would like to give a special thanks to all the woman and men in the serving our country, especially Matthew Koehler who could not be here to celebrate our special day."  Does that seem cheesy?

No, I think that would be really nice.  I think you could also, after the best man who is present at the wedding, write "Matt Koehler....Honorary Best Man" or just "Best Man" as people will figure out by his absence (they can count heads) that the role is his but he couldn't make it.  My brother may not make it to our wedding and he would have been an usher.  We are listing him on our programs just the same.

ETA:  I'll keep him in my T&P.  That is a tough one for someone so close!  My uncle will miss my wedding as he will be on deployment as well.  He is a Naval doctor
  • I agree with Volleygirl. I would also include his rank if you just do the honorary best man line. People will understand what's up.

This is off topic but good lord do I love men in uniform. Anyone else?

  • All I can say is holy crap did he ever get buff over the past year!  I have no clue how he did it lol!  He is just starting out (basic training until the end of october) so I am not sure if he has a rank yet?  I don't know how it all works, he's the first person I have ever known to join the military!
  • mmmm men in uniform.... lol

I think it's very thoughtful to acknowledge him and I really like the idea of listing his rank so people "get it". I hope he stays safe :)
