Fun with my new name

On Sunday FI and I went to Lowes to get appliances since we'll be closing on our house next week.  They needed to put a phone number into the system.  Oddly, FI's phone number was already in the system under someone else's name.  So I gave the employee my phone number and when we went to do the last name in the customer profile FI and I coincidently looked at each other with this look of hesitation(weird how you start to think alike huh).  This close to the wedding it seems dumb to sign up for things with my maiden name because it is just one more thing to change.  So FI was of course okay with it and I filled out the profile with my married name.  There is no financial or legal information in there so it is okay.  It was fun to think of how close I am to being Mrs. M and how ready I am for that!

Re: Fun with my new name

  • Neat! I had to create a new email account a few months back and since it was a personal one, I thought, hey, why not just use the new name? :D Not really using it yet, but it's ready to go (dumping my old Comcast acct as soon as the wedding's done b/c ZOMG the spam! And I've noticed emails just disappear sometimes. Like, emails with copies of contracts. Emails with flight & hotel info for the honeymoon. Not important at all. 0_o).

  • I've already signed up for a couple things with my new married name and it's so exciting!  FI made me create a gmail account about a year ago (I've used hotmail since like 1997) so we could share documents, etc.  I set it up under my new married name, and I'm itching to start using it as my regular email and demote my current one to junk mail.  It's fun, but I'm not looking forward to heading to the end of the alphabet.  :(  B to W  Lame.

  • FI knows I think it's weird when I hear it so when we were in the car this weekend he said it 3 times and I think he secretly loved it by how he was acting lol. I am changing my e-mail too because it's my first and last name and will just have everything forwarded to me. It's fun but weird at the same time. I'm starting to get used to it, lol.
  • I'm so happy for all of you.

See, I will admit that I'm *reluctantly* hyphenating my last name.  I'm still going by my maiden name professionally and am choosing to hyphenate 1) so that when we have children I will share a name with them and 2) because it means a lot to my fiance...

I'm doing the totally opposite thing- like making sure that IT won't change my work email without my say so and begrudgingly ordering new checks.

I think it's partially for practical and professional reasons and partially just to be stubborn and different, but even hyphenating my last name is so much of a stretch for me.

  • I can't wait to change my name!  My email is my first and middle name which I've had for years so that won't need to be changed but I just got a new job and they ordered the name plate for my office with my new name!  But I'm crazy and won't let them put it up yet until it's official.
  • Im so excited to start using my married name...I keep saying outloud and it just seems so weird right now lol
  • I was at the Dr.'s office today and I felt so silly writing single under marital status and not yet getting to write Husband next to relation of emergency contact. :)

  • I told the dry cleaners my married name, and it almost felt sinful. hehe
  • FI has a good friend of the family that he's really close to who has been calling me "Mrs K" for awhile now as a joke. Unfortunately we had to attend her father's funeral recently. FI (I didn't know) signed the book with Mr and Mrs K.... she came up after saying it was the only laugh she had all day and thanked him for it. I replied with 'geez, if I knew it was that easy, why am I spending all this time planning a ceremony?'
  • I am the opposite. As excited as I am to become Mrs. Ford I am having seperation anxiety from my name. I feel that way because it has been my name for MY WHOLE LIFE. I never thought I would be the bride with hesitation but I guess I am lol. I am of course chaning my name but I will miss the maiden name. My father raised me to have pride in my name as a kid so I probably have a weird attachment lol
I must admit I did lie to direct tv and use my future name and stated I was his wife last month lol

  • I have name change anxiety; I am not looking forward to it. I like my last name and I'm sad about changing it (but it's more important to FI than to me so I'm changing it). I might even just use my last name as my new middle name... still haven't decided on that.

  • I am starting to have fun with my new last name too. I had to order a new badge at work so instead of having it say Nicole B I wrote Nicole M instead. Confused my HR lady though! LOL because ironically in the whole store we have 2 Nicole Bs and no other Nicole and she hasn't hired anyone new named Nicole so she was like, Who the heck?
