save the dates or no save the dates....

I really had no plans to send out save the dates because i was trying to cut out things that werent necessary. However, we do have a lot of family oot and a handful of family in other states. Should we just give them a call and let them know we are getting married or send save the dates? And is it okay to only send save the dates to the ooters or does everyone get one?

Re: save the dates or no save the dates....

  • i personally think its fine to send them only the the OOTers.

i have read lots of ladies did theirs for dirt cheap through vistaprint.

im making mine, but mostly because i love doing crafty things and showing off my papercrafting skills. im sending as many as i have addresses to send. but not everyone will get them

  • STD for OOT guests only is perfectly fine.  IMHO, email/electronic STDs are also perfectly fine.  If you want to call OOT guests, that's also fine.

I would go ahead and set up a wedding website with the important travel info, and then send around an email to the OOT people you are certain you will invite.  Free and easy.

I was the same way. I didn't want to send out std's because I was trying to cut. But then everyone kept asking for them...

So I went on vistaprint (sign up for their emails) and I sent one out to just about everyone for under 80 dollars. I ordered the large business magnets, added a poem and a picture of us.  Then I ordered the envelopes from envelopemall.com .  The envelopes from vistaprint are expensive.  GL!!
  • I'm not sending them.  I told the date to a lot of people when we set it, and then once I got the hotel block in place I sent out an email to all my guests with that information and a link to the website.  (Hopefully this email will also go to FI's guests, but he hasn't finished his guest list yet, grrrr.....)

  • I have a LOT of OOT guests. I got free postcards from vistaprint with hotel block and airport info and mailed those to everyone who is OOT. I only paid shipping on Vistaprint (so like $5) and got 100 postcards. I mailed them with postcard stamps, which were $.28, and only needed about 40 of them. So it was less than $20 to do STDs.

  • I did a magnet through Vistaprint and it was about $37 for 200 magnets.  It is the business card sized magnet.  I bought small coin envelopes at Office Max and got a Save the Date stamp online and stamped the little coin envelope that contained the magnet.  Then, I put that into a larger white card envelope (Office Max) and mailed them.  They have been a huge hit and I spend about $75 on the whole thing!

  • The majority of my and my FI guests are also OOT.  I did email STD on mypunchbowl.com.  I accidentally included an RSVP because I didn't change the settings.  Some people who I didn't think were coming RSVP'd that they were planning on coming so that was a surprise.  In my mind Email STDs are not tacky for a semi formal wedding, but would be for a formal wedding.  Doing email STDs saved us about $100 plus postage.
