police officers - addressing invites?

i wasn't sure if i should put this on the etiquette board or here...

do police officers' invites get addressed as Mr. or Officer? i have two i'm inviting, one is a city traffic cop and then other is with the sherrif's department on court room duty.

help!

    I'd go with Mr./Mrs. otherwise you could get caught up in a bunch of professional title messes.

    Ditto PPs... stick with "Mr."  Usually the only people who don't get Mr./Mrs. on their invitation are medical doctors (and in some cases people address invitations to people with PhDs as Dr., depending on how they go in social circles).

    FMIL addressed the invitation to one of FI's GMs and his wife as Detective Lieutenant and Mrs. John Smith. 

    But, hmm, one of his subordinates (who I believe is an officer) we addressed as Mr.  I didn't hear any comments about that.

    FI is a cop so of course we invited a number of cops to the wedding.  I used Mr./Mrs. for everyone.

    As the daughter of two police officers....use their regular titles of Mr./Mrs./Ms.

    Don't overcomplicate titles or else you will drive yourself crazy!
