Address help please?!

Helping my sister do Bridal Shower invitation, it's a couple's wedding shower.So when addressing the invitation should it be to the woman or woman and man? for example; Mr. and Mrs. Jane Doe. Also I have one couple who mine as well be married, lived together for 11 or s years but never married how to I address this invitation?

  • If the invitation is meant for two people, it needs to be addressed to two people. "Mr. and Mrs. Jane Doe" is not at all correct. 

    "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe" is the formal way of saying Jane and John Doe. 

    If you want both names on the invitation, Mr. and Mrs. Jane and John Doe is correct because you never separate a man's first from his last name. 

    You could just do Jane and John Doe if this is not a formal shower. 

    For unmarried couples living together, these are your options:
    Mr. John Smith
    Ms. Jane Doe

    Ms. Jane Doe and Mr. John Smith

    Some people will tell you that "and" between a couple's name implies marriage, which is not true most of the time. Emily Post advises putting couples living together on one line with "and" between.

  • Any tips on inviting couples to a couples shower when they dont live together but you really are only close friends with one?
