Wedding Invitations & Paper

Really confused still

I am a little confused about pocket fold envelopes. What is the purpose of them if you still have to use an envelope? Or don't you have to use an envelope?

Re: Really confused still

  • What type of pocketfold do you mean, could you post a pic?
I understand that you have your pocket invitation and you use on envelope to send it in...but I'm no expert.
  • sure here is one example!

Outside (Is this what it looks like when the pocketfold is closed, or is this an outer envelope?

Pocketfold (I guess this is my question... To me this looks like a pocketfold envelope. So, what would be the need for an outer envelope?

  • Pocketfold invitations (like THESE, for example) hold your inserts (RSVP card/envelope, reception card, and additional cards like directions or accommodations in the pocket. The actual invite portion (Mr. and Mrs. Smith request the honour..) goes on the blank middle section of the pocketfold. That's all folded up and then stuffed inside of another envelope to mail. If you were to send the pocketfold without an envelope, it would likely arrive to your guests in pretty bad shape.

Basically pocketfolds just keep all of the elements in one "folder" rather than stuffing them separately into the mailing envelope. I think they're more popular for design than for function, but they do keep all inserts in one place if your guests were to throw away the mailing envelope but wanted to keep all invite materials together.
  • Ok, thank you! I don't know if it worth the extra $ than. I will have to think about it. Really appreciate your help!
  • No problem!  A lot of people use belly bands as an alternative to pocketfolds if you want all the invite components to be kept together.
