Self-printing on Vistaprint Cards

I'm considering buying cards from Vistaprint with my design on them, and then running through my own printer to add names to place cards, table information to table cards, etc.  Has anyone here purchased Vistaprint items and then run them through a printer?  Did it work?

Re: Self-printing on Vistaprint Cards

  • Doesn't Vistaprint add the wording for free for you? Or do you just not like the way they are doing it?

I'm thinking of ordering all my invites, response cards ect from them too..
  • I've already ordered my invitations and RSVP cards.  I'm asking about place cards and table number cards.  Since Vistaprint can't print the cards with all the individual names and numbers, I'm wondering about ordering cards with the right design, and then printing the individual stuff myself.  Has anyone done this?
  • I haven't, but word of caution-- some of the vistaprint cards are 'glossy' and unlikely to take ink well.  If you get matte cards it is likely to work better.  Also consider if they will be too stiff for your printer.  Depending on the style and feed type, some con't handle heavier cardstocks without jamming.
  • I am doing this for my place cards.  My friend designed my invitations for me, so I had her create the place cards on the standard 6x9 invitation.  She put 2 place cards per invitation.  So I just have to cut them in half, then fold them.  I then used Word, to create the template for the placecards.  I will add the names into my template and print.  I haven't sent them through the printer yet, but the standard cardstock should easily go through a printer.
  • OliveOilsMom: Will you report back here after you run them through the printer?  I'd love to hear how it goes.  :)
  • I will!  We are almost to that point, so hopefully in about a week or so, I will get to the place cards!

It really depends on your printer, some prints can not handle such small cards. If you have a photo editing program, you should be able to tell the printer what size paper your wanting to print on.

Another option would be is to go to your local print shop (Staples, OfficeMax, Kinkos, etc) and see what they will charge to print for you.

Personally, for my place/escort cards, I am using clear address labels. You may also be able to get larger clear labels that you can adhere the number to the table cards.

    Good luck!!!!
  • I just finished printing my place cards and they worked out great!   I created a Word document in the exact size of the place card.  I set the margins to make sure the design wouldn't be printed over.  Then I just typed in the names and printed.  If you are familiar with Word at all, it is really easy!

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I really appreciate it.  My invitations arrived and I was surprised by how stiff the paper is, so I'm still on the fence about getting placecards and running them through a printer.  I got mine with the "linen finish" and it's more plastic-y than nice linen, so I don't know what to think.
