Wedding Invitations & Paper

February wedding - when to send invites?

Our wedding is February 20th. If we send invites 8 weeks before the wedding, that puts it the day after Christmas. I really want to avoid the Christmas card mail rush, as I've heard more mail gets lost then and I also don't want the invite to be ignored if people think it's just another Christmas card.

Should we send invites in late November, or in January? I'm concerned that January is cutting it close for RSVP time, but November seems a bit too early. Thoughts?

Re: February wedding - when to send invites?

  • When is your RSVP deadline?  Do you have a lot of OOT guests?  Did you/will you send STDs?
    Married 10/2/10
  • We are getting married the following weekend. We are sending out save the dates next month. Then we will be sending out invites out towards the end of November. RSVP date will be some where around Dec. 15th or so. We are also going to give the option to RSVP on our website. That way people wont have to send back an invite.
  • Here is the traditional timeline,
used by brides for years and years:

    Your wedding is Feb. 20.

So your invitations go in the mail on JANUARY 9 (six weeks before) -- not Christmas-time at all.

And your RSVP date is JANUARY 30 (three weeks before)

    See below:
Q.How far in advance should you send invitations? What is the proper date to ask for the reply card?
    A. Invitations should go out six weeks before the wedding -- that gives guests plenty of time to clear their schedules for the day and make travel arrangements if they are out-of-towners. It also lets you make the RSVP date a little earlier -- say three weeks before the wedding date -- so you can get a final head count and start making a seating chart (if you'll have one) before the final-week-before-the-wedding crunch begins.

That's way too early for the RSVP date.

RSVP deadline will be about 3 weeks before the wedding. Some OOT guests but they're my immediate family (parents and sister), and they're all very well aware of the wedding date. We will not be sending STDs.

Beginning of January might work alright, thanks ladies. 6 weeks just doesn't seem like enough time...

Even if they live across the country and it takes a week to get to them, they still have 2 weeks to decide if they are going (which they may have already decided) and mail the card back. I think you'll be fine.

  • Our venue requires exact numbers 6 weeks before the wedding. Meaning we need to have our RSVPs earlier. So its not too early. We went to a wedding last March 26th and got the invite in Dec with the RSVP day Jan 20. I know this for a fact bc it was my sisters wedding.

  • You are thinking correctly...best to mail a few days after Christmas...maybe Tues, the 28th...that way most guests in your area will have them before New years...and be home from Grandma's after holiday...still giving you plenty of reply time.  November is way too early...I'd worry about guests totally forgetting
