Innner and outer envelopes?

When sending my wedding invites do I have to use an inner and outer envelope?

Re: Innner and outer envelopes?

  • If they came with them I would. It helps keep the invitation from getting damaged. If they dont come with them, I wouldnt worry about it.

  • I'm not doing it, I consider it a waste!  The only problem I've heard that people run in to is that people don't actually LOOK at the outer envelope, so when they get to the RSVP part they forget who was actually invited...
  • You don't have to, but we did.

It's useful if you're giving someone a plus one, because it's more correct etiquette wise to list "John and Guest" on the inner envelope than to put "Mr. John Doe and Guest" on the outer. Also if you're inviting just parents and not their kids, having an inner envelope makes that much more clear to them, because their names would be listed, but not their kids'.

Even so, they aren't a fool proof way to guard against extra RSVPs, and they aren't necessary. :)
  • We did not do inner envelopes, and come to think of it, out of all the wedding invitations I've ever received, I've never seen one that had an inner envelope.  Strange.
