RSVP by date?

I'm sure there's an answer to this question somewhere but can't for the life of me find it.  Our final count is due 8 days before the Wedding.  I'm trying to figure out if I should make the RSVP due date a week prior to that or 2 weeks prior.  I feel like 2 weeks prior makes it mean that they need to RSVP 3 weeks prior to the wedding but then I think it's also a nice cushion for tracking down all those that don't send them back. Should I split the difference and do 1 1/2 weeks? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

2 or 3 weeks would be fine. I don't think 3 is too soon at all, and that's what I'd go with personally.

I have my RSVP date set about 3 weeks before the wedding and we have to have our numbers in 2 weeks before.  I think the earlier the better because you will always have people who you have to track down.
